textcraft - rogue-like sandbox fun
« on: June 28, 2011, 03:49:20 pm »

Well, I think everybody knows about Minecraft

I've started making a game 2 days ago, and been updating it A LOT frequently

The game is a mixture of Minecraft and Rogue

I've got a blog for it, posting updates and downloads, http://textcraft.tumblr.com/ , I'll be happy if you comment on posts

Enjoy! (RETURN stands for Enter and F1 for in-game help)

I don't know why, but the below image gives me fond memories of Ultima 4.  :)

How is working with the XNA?  Is it nice to work with?

Ignoring "dicks" (I was showing that to my friends, it's removed now)

Well, I think it's the black background with most of the tiles having black parts (most of the ground was green dots on a black tile)

Also XNA is superb easy, though it's really not supporting mouse usage - you need to hard-code buttons inside which requires loadsa work

I'm using a full keyboard based UI management because of it

C# itself doesn't allow you to make mistakes unlike C++ which was more trial & error for me

I used Allegro for an ancestor for this game

That looks like a nice project. I must give it a shot one of these days! I love constructing games but something about MineCraft just puts me off.

This is inspiring. I actually started working on something like this a while back... It eventually died due to rushed/unreadable code structuring. I can't wait to see where you go with this.  :)

If you an extra pair of eyes to hunt for bugs, you can ask me!

I won't agree, but ask me anyway!
