But these barrels have the mark of the elves...
« on: May 06, 2011, 10:00:05 pm »

So some elves rolled through, spouting their typical crap. I told them to leave, but not before seizing some of their stuff that I thought I might need later. This included 3 barrels of gnomeblight[i've never actually had any before.]

Anyways, time passes, humans show up. Now I'm trading them my stuff because they have some iron I want. I see the gnomeblight in the list.. but it's name is red. I also cannot trade it. Will they not accept items I seized from the elves? Why?

Traders will not trade with items seized from other traders. The only way to trade them is by modifying (decorating) them.

Stolen goods cannot be traded, unless laundered.  Stud the barrels with zinc or other crap metals, or give it a leather or cloth image, and you can sell it.

Hm. Well damn. What can I do with this gnomeblight, then? I don't have any gnomes to pour it on, so it's just taking up space.

Edit: Hmmm. I could descorate, I suppose. How do I go about decorating specific items? I always thought encrusting/sewing/etc was always to an item picked at random.

put a highly restrictive stockpile adjacent to the craftdwarf's workshop, they generally take the closest object that fulfills the job requirement, in older versions at least this was based on proximity at the moment the job was assigned, so it would often take two job listings, the first would use up the object closest to wherever they were when they got the job, and the second would be the closest to the workshop when they completed the first, and were assigned the second.

I'm not sure if they will or will not decorate furniture when it is storing something, i know that they will decorate it when it is empty.
