exponential =/= quadratic

In this case, it makes little difference, but yes, x^2 =/= (some number)^x

Yeah... I thought that was odd too... But what matters is what the raws say (and I don't know what that is)...

I want to know if there is a way to increase war animal skills...we should be able to have war animals that get stronger with time and experience...I would love to have a legendary war dog running around...

Wolves are tiny little ankle biters.

I think the [CAN_LEARN] tag govern whether a creature can or cannot learn skill: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Creature_token#C

That being said, I'm now curious whether size has a noticeable impact on combat effectiveness. What if you made wolves into megabeasts, like size 100000000?

Size has the largest impact on combat effectiveness. Big things are much deadlier than little things.                   Also, wolves really aren't that big compared to a big dog (remember we bred dogs from wolves, and picked the biggest ones for war dogs!)

Also to put my 2¢ in on the size thing...I have seen many wolves (used to live in areas with them) and in most cases they are not much bigger than your average dog...and since dog is so ambiguous it could mean something like a mastiff (which can get pretty big). They are a bit like a mix between a fox and a dog (size wise).

Obviously as seen in the pictures they, like any other animal given the right circumstances, can become much larger than average...I bet those in the pictures are alpha males from a larger pack.

Sorry for bumping a somewhat old thread....but is it possible to mod in animal armour? Like armour that can only be used by quadrupeds similar to how human armour can't be worn by dwarves?

Thanks

You can mod in armor intended for dogs, sure, but it's currently completely impossible to make them wear it, except in the arena.

Well, really, the armor wouldn't be for dogs, as the game isn't designed atm to recognize that distinction. It would just think it was armor to small for dwarves, if that's possible.

Would be nice, though.

In order to improve the universe's frame rate, we must all throw rocks into volcanoes and then do absolutely nothing, worldwide, for a week, to take pressure off pathfinding.
or maybe throw them into the large hadron collider to atom-smash them instead.
Not to mention to throw all available animals into tiny pits.
