Very weird: no plants in the caverns?
« on: January 25, 2011, 12:18:40 pm »

I recently generated a small region with the "create world with advanced..." option.

The only changes I made:
End year: 100
Cavern layers: 1

Temperature/weather is off.

There were no plants/plant related products whatsoever on the embark screen.

The world was odd. It has a very large purple mountain chain. Normally, only a small part of the world is sinister/haunted/whatever but this mountain chain is completely purple and very large.

Initially I thought I had set the cavern layers to 0, but I double-checked and they are set to 1. I breached the cavern layer on level 13 or so. There is lots of mud, but no plants.

The world is pretty cool otherwise, but I have temperature/weather off, so the ice on the surface won't melt (?). I'll get no booze.

What's up with this? Does anyone know?

Cavern plants only grow if there's enough "water" to support them. I say "water" in quotes because it doesn't matter if any water actually exists in the cavern; it's a random number between 0 and 100 that determines how much water there should be. You're probably familiar with it - the parameters are right under the cavern layer number. [CAVERN_LAYER_WATER_MIN:0] and [CAVERN_LAYER_WATER_MAX:100]. It's random for each cavern - you just got the short end of the stick. Try increasing the minimum to 25.

EDIT: If you do set caverns to zero, you won't get plants or booze on embark either.
