hmmm... this is puzzling because I have a windows 7 resolution being 1366 x 768 and I put the settings I mentioned earlier in the SDL package and it works perfectly.

Same res here (and same OS) as the above poster. I mostly play windowed, but fullscreen works perfectly with the default settings, plus Herrbdog's square tileset.

Well, it should be noted that the default fullscreen tiles are this*. If that's what you mean by "stretched", then just use a different tileset.

*okay so my image keeps getting resized, but anyway it's curses_800x600.png.

The 800x600 png is indeed stretched beyond reason in the new versions.

I solved it by getting Sappho's old 16x16 tileset at the wiki.

Init settings:
[WINDOWEDX:0]
[WINDOWEDY:0]
[FONT:Sapphos_square_16x16.png]

and

[FULLSCREENX:0]
[FULLSCREENY:0]
[FULLFONT:Sapphos_square_16x16.png]

[BLACK_SPACE:YES]

(sorry for vanishing for two days, I got tied up with work.)

YES! THIS IS IT!

I had my screen perfectly sized in .28.40d; I understand the concept of aspect ratios. Hell, it was harder in 40d, since you had to set your grid size and all that bunk. The mystery of the SDL version was that it should be easier; what with the automagical-ness. The tiles looking goofy despite all init file changes defied all logic... but if the font is buggered, that explains it nicely.

You have saved me much irritation, martinuzz. I thank you kindly.

I like the fact we are seriously discussing how to drop dwarfs off towers using  kittens as cushions.
