The 'dwarven' thought process is more like 'if' and 'else' statements.

Urist McBrewer: Hmm, either I can make a life-saving batch of plump helmet wine, or haul rocks from the furthest corner of the fortress out to the garbage pile outside.  Avoiding death by thirst, or keeping the fort tidy?  Well, I do like long walks...

Urist McBookkeeper: So thirsty, must grab a drink.  Ahh, that's better.  Now, back to work.  My, recording the stockpile contents is hard with a barrel in your right hand!

Urist McMiner: Ahh, I've found me a healthy vein of precious ore!  But there's so much else I'm supposed to dig, too.  I think I'll pointedly ignore the ore and dig anywhere but there.  Ooh, I know, I'll go dig that moat that was designated back when the fort started that I've been ignoring for the last 2 years instead!

Urist McMason: Time to make some furniture!  Let's see, the nearest stone to me is 2 feet away, but it's to my right.  And no Dwarf worth his salt looks to his RIGHT when finding stone, that's bad luck!  Down to the deepest level I go to get a rock from there instead!
