Desginations Ignored - No Job?
« on: March 26, 2010, 02:01:39 pm »

I have a bunch of rock set to be mined out and trees to be felled, but for some reason my miners and woodcutters are just sitting around with 'No job' task. I have all other work set to off so that they would just do this and only this but I can't figure out why they won't get to work. Is it a bug or something?

EDIT: They aren't doing a bunch of jobs actually, my wood burner is sitting around with 'No job' even though I have wood to be burnt, logs ready to be burnt, everything is good to go and normal, he just has 'No job' for some reason.

EDIT EDIT: Apparently a whole much of things were set to forbidden for some reason, what the the things that forbid items on their own because I know I never told anyone to forbid copper pickaxes. My miners still wont mine though.

I may not be helpful, but when this happens it is usually the miners don't have mining enabled, but that might be just me  ::). Do they have access to the designations? The only other thing could be...... that  they are on strike?

I discovered something new about aquifers!  On the down side, there's now a cave fish swimming around in the bedrooms.

As far as I know, forbidding weapons happens when they whack somebody with them and you have the standing order "forbid other death items" enabled. Apparently, blood counts as an item. Having a forbidden pick already equipped should not, however, keep them from mining; it should only keep another dwarf from picking it up.

As you already realized, having building materials forbidden will also forbid the use of workshops made out of it. That doesn't explain why your woodcutters and miners won't do their jobs. The only cause I can think of right now is that they can't reach their destination.
