Obsidian Casting Challenge!

Rather than describe the challenge, I'm going to post this Youtube video and see if anybody understands the challenge proposal from that.   8)

That'd be awfully hard to do with magma and water, since you'd have to start with magma at the bottom, then add JUUUUST the right amount of water, then repeat.

Well, the bigger problem is that caves are not solely top-down. The one on my map has staircases up into regions that the magma could never reach because it has no hydrostatic pressure, and that once reached could never get water because the obsidian would form blocking access.

That said, you could dig out a structure and then do this. Wouldn't even necessarily be that hard, depending on how you approached it. It'd be slow and tedious, but that's a whole other issue.

Build a floor at the bottom of a bottomless pit.

Add magma and water?

You all do know that we everytime we gen a world in DF, a new universe is created somewhere, and everytime we delete a save we kill a whole world?
Aye, we are Armok, god of blood, evil, villager gutting, fortress building, legend making and elf thongs.

I'd personally never do it because I don't like tedious challenges, but I posted it because there are players here who enjoy digging every single tile of the map.

You'd probably have to focus your fortress design from the beginning toward this goal to make it possible to end like this.  And the power demands for getting magma and water to every area would be pretty outrageous... you'd likely need to do it in sections.

Ice.

Build fortress, flood, strip off layers of soil until rooms are outdoors and freeze.

Get to it! I'd like to see a 3d image of it.

!

ice. Perfect! I hadn't thought of that. This would only allow for the freezing of UNDERGROUND parts of a fortress, though, and the plumbing system would also have to be underground.

Are there any good glacier saves in the depot for us to cast?
