If we let the person running the game pick the design, then if he changes his mind about the mechanics, you can bring up his decision and he must retcon it either to being incorrect or pretend he had chosen diffrently.

If YOU arbitrarily select black, and he later decides that black was a bad choice (On a light coloured planet? In a bright part of space where they are already overheating? Next to a light coloured construction?) then it is YOU at fault for the colour choice when the resulting outcome is not the desired outcome.

It is better to put the blame on the person who makes the rules in the first place, since they know much more than you.
