Depot problem?
« on: October 14, 2009, 08:30:03 pm »

I'm experiencing a Depot accessibility bug.

Can anyone help me with this? I don't remember how it started, but the depot should be entirely accessible. I even reclaimed, and that doesn't help.

are there stones on the ground? stones act like trees in that they generate a 3x3 wagon inpassable zone. You can smooth them over and that shoudl open up access.

Also, check if you've forbidden the stone that your Depot is made of ('t' over it).

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

Wait.  That's odd.  Shouldn't the depot be flashing "inaccessible depot", not "no wagon access"?

Yes, maybe what Magua said.  Actually, upon testing, probably exactly what Magua said.

I assume you meant boulders, since loose mined stone doesn't cause problems for caravans. Trees can also cause problems, which is usually a good reason to build a paved road to the map edge.

Also be aware that wagons cannot travel past stairs or through doors (though building 3 doors in a row requires special trickery, so that's almost certain to not be an issue).

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

You know to start from the depot and work your way outwards, right? Follow the green until it turns not-green and find the obstruction.

Wow, thanks guys!
And to think I posted a second image, which clearly shows that I'm using ramps, and even areas outside which should be displayed accessible simply aren't.
Sorry to be a dick; I'm having a pretty bad day. But, seriously, WOW. Everything is fine. Except my depot cannot be accessed. Can I state it any more clearly?
Now could there be a bug that causes this? And could I potentially, hypothetically fix this bug?

Re-read my (well, mostly Magua's) reply.  THAT is likely your problem, and you have not stated that you have checked into it.

In fact, when I tried doing this in my own fortress, it had the exact same effect shown in the screenshots. I used to accidentally forbid my steel-bar trade depot whenever I got a strange mood, which is why I eventually rebuilt it from steel blocks (since I never have a reason to forbid those).

The green wagon pathing starts from the edge of the map and then heads to your depot, it won't be green radiating from the depot - this might mean that there is no wagon usable path to your depot from the edge of the map due to trees/cliffs/boulders but you can't find out where the blockages are because it doesn't path backwards.

Smooth boulders and cut trees until you know you have a definite path from the depot to the map edge.

If you have a definite path and it's still red then it is probably the depot is forbidden.

If it's neither of these insert a bootdisc and format C:\

Wrong, wrong, WRONG!  It radiates from the depot.  Whoever told you otherwise is a dirty liar.

Um, Hillburra, pathing most certainly does start from your depot and radiate outwards. You can trivially check this if you have any kind of lockdown mode that locks away your depot.

Then I must have had some pathing bug when I had a similar problem about 6 months ago - my bad.
