Sup-coms a really good one. Next time I build my awesome fort of death i'll take some pictures. When you have a base thats covered in shields, has about 40 arty cannons and and the only way in is through a confusing maze of dragons teeth, you feel proud. Oh so proud.

Seconding Stronghold.

Also, there was this game where you have nothing but buildings, which have to be connected to your existing building network, and which shot stuff at enemy buildings. The game was Moon themed and quite fun. I can't remember the exact name, but I think it was something along the lines of Moonbase, Lunar Colony or something like that.

Sounds kinda like Netstorm. It's an interesting old game.

I would suggest Dwarf Fortress, but I think you might already know about that one...

Some of these games here sound good, I'll be sure to look at them.

For that viciously bad pun, I'm gonna introduce a NPC named Vlynndar just so that I can kill him of in a cruel and unusual way.
Watermelons are pretty important.

another game with only buildings is Harvest: massive encounter. it's asymmetric though, with your opponent having only units (and, as far as I can tell from the demo, exclusively single player)

I tried to play chess but two of my opponents were playing competitive checkers as a third person walked in with Game of Thrones in hand confused cause they thought this was the book club.

There is a Perimeter 2, however, not as good.

Actually, what you're thinking of is Moonbase Commander. I'm fairly certain on that one.

"Compatibility mode", dude. If he tries running it under "capatability mode" some terrible thing involving elder gods will probably happen.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

Then there's Outpost 2. I think it even had multiplayer. And Maelstrom, the meta-sequel to Perimeter.

The most important ones have been mentioned, I think. Stronghold, Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander, Netstorm, Outpost 2. Perimeter. You might even try something as old as Rampart...
