Changing weapons?
« on: July 25, 2007, 09:54:00 pm »

I bought a new weapon but I can't figure out how to wield it.  I tried using r to remove my current weapon, but it wasn't on the list.  I can remove everything except my sword and shield, which are in my hands.

Help?

It's being held in your hands, so you need to drop it or put it in a container before you can put something else into it.   I don't think there's currently any way to switch things out quicker.

Wow, that was complicated.  Why can't items held in the adventurer's hands be removed in the armor menu?  That seems absurd.  Toady, any plans to fix that?  :(

It's more than extremely logical to drop things you have in your hands, in a Rogue kind of way... But I have to agree with you tough. The thing is that it's only an Alpha version... So stay tuned and eventually it will all make sense.  :)

Removed where?  Using the armor menu seems like it would take as much time as dropping it or putting it into a container.  I agree that it's clunky, but you can't just "remove" something you are holding.  It needs to go somewhere.  The process can be streamlined later.

the mechanics of [R]emoving stuff is that it ends up in your hands (which is somewhat logical, even if it does take a lot less time IRL to drop something you just took off then to take it off in the first place). removing from hands is thus pointless.

I guess I'm thinking of other games I have played, where when you remove armor or weapons they go into your inventory (backpack, etc.).  The problem with having to drop things and then pick them back up is that I had other hold-able items in my inventory, and when I dropped one item on the ground, another would take its place.  I had to drop everything hold-able in my inventory and then pick up the two items I wanted to wield, *then* pick up everything else.  It seemed like it took an awfully long time, whereas removing weapons or armor could just toss it into your inventory and that'd be that.

Just put them in your backpack.
