Dwarf Fortress Steam Saving
« on: November 16, 2022, 01:46:55 pm »

I really think and hope that the Steam version of Dwarf Fortress has better saving mechanics especially with:
  • Steam Cloud saves PLEASE
  • Cross-platform sync: so, the saves between the Windows version of DF Premium and the (hopefully) upcoming MacOS and Linux are compatible (including their Steam Cloud version, if implemented)
  • Better saving system so that it doesn't quit out of the current game (also applies to Dwarf Fortress Classic)
  • A quicksave option (in a similar system to Bethesda games) even if it's just a simple hotkey binding (e.g. F6) would be helpful (also applies to Dwarf Fortress Classic)
  • If Steam Cloud is not a valid option, I think a built-in way (or mod, hint-hint) to access Cloud Services (OneDrive, Google Drive, or GitHub 8)) for saving would also work, just not as intuitive.

Are you drawing a distinction between these two? If you're thinking of DFHack's "quicksave" command, that's not really any different from quitting without saving - the "quick" really just refers to the time savings from not having to reload the game.

There was a typo in the siegers' campfire code. When the fires went out, so did the game.
