Turn 2 Revision ResultsThe exploding slingstones are better then sparks, most people agree, even if they're harder to use. But arrows, people also agree, are better then slings. So some bright soul decided to see if they could make some exploding arrows! They soon switched to seeking to make arrows that exploded when they were supposed to be exploding instead of while still notched on the bow, but still, the idea stood. Eventually, by making an arrow primarily out of metal, they succeeded in making an arrow that, when infused with a spell based on the Spark spell and the exploding slingstones, could be fired out to explode when it hits a target.
[Normal] 5 + 5 = Superior
A fairly logical and straightforward improvement to a spell we've already had nailed down fairly well; the Blast Arrow is truly a terrifying spell for its simplicity. The heavy bronze arrow on its own is fearsome, but the magic applied to it, which the bronze seemed to readily 'drink up', causes it to burst roughly a second after impact. Though not all things are amazing; it seems that the sparks spell applied to it is trying to propel the arrow
directly at the target, not enough to override the bow (the motive force was never designed to move a physical object after all); but the dissonance between the angle of firing the bow and this force can cause the arrow to veer off course and tumble on anything but a direct shot. An issue that wasn't a problem with the mostly uniform slingstones. Still, the spell is flexible enough to be adjusted, or even for that aspect of the magic to be suppressed. Though this tends to slow down rate of fire and mentally tax the Frelki who've cast it. Though some speculation has gone around; could a mind dedicated to the art exploit this facet of the spell to accomplish greater things?
Blast Arrows are [Common]; though barely, meaning that the Frelki can indeed cast these projectiles. Due to a quirk in the magic; it's rather slow and taxing to cast, though this is a minor issue that could potentially turned into a boon by a Specialized caster.
There's nothing actually wrong with the Wooden Sailing Boat schematics. They're just... unpolished. So therefor what we need to do is to refine the design so that it actually works without the slapdash 'well this works so do it' measures of the initial design, replacing slapdash construction with thoughtful skill and makeshift craft with skilled craft. And replacing the overly-heavy mast reinforcement with something more refined. That would also be good.
[Normal] 1 + 5 = Average
For once, something in our nautical department went right. Gone are the eyesores of old, and in with the new fleet of sleek yet durable boats. The reinforcement was streamlined, no excess here, and the hull strengthened. The latest boats are no longer excessively heavy and so can finally exploit their full cargo capacity, and those who worry about the mast were reassured that it's fine. Overall, a this is a vessel to be proud of. We weren't able to noticeably cheapen the boat, however; though it's certainly a fine boat. [Uncommon]
Hunter - Sporting a simple bronze spear and basic padded clothing; this improvised soldier may not be the best equipped or trained, but they are willing to fight to reclaim your nation's glory! They also have a simple sturdy stick as a sidearm. [Common]
Spearman - Trained in formation work and commanded directly by the Tyrni; these soldiers armored in light bronze scales are a drastic improvement over the hunters. Carries a bronze spear and a shield reinforced by a bronze rim. [Uncommon]
Tyrni - A remnant of the Great Life Modifications of ages past, the Tyrni may be a minority of the population, but they are nonetheless significant. On average, they are larger, stronger, faster, and smarter than the average person, though a Tyrni that coasts through life on their advantages will see themselves surpassed by normal people who've actually put in the effort to refine their body and/or mind to its natural limits. Though of course, a Tyrni who has put in that same effort will be matched by only the best of the best outside a similarly motivated Tyrni.
As they are a minority, and how they often find themselves in leadership or otherwise important positions, and how they often have a shorter lifespan and that being healed by Rejuvenating Touch will shorten said lifespan even more, they are a rare sight in the army. They are currently equipped identically to the standard Spearmen.
[Rare]
Slinger - The humble sling may not be the most impressive of weapons, but a strip of leather or rope is a cheap and serviceable armament. Their ammunition follows suit, being scavenged stones they find in the field. [Common]
Eastern Archers - Equipped with Recurve Bows capable of delivering power beyond their size, and given basic training, these Archers actually somewhat resemble trained soldiers. They are armored with basic padded clothing, and carry a sturdy stick as a sidearm. Care in crafting their bows in addition to the cost of their bronze-tipped arrows renders them [Uncommon]
War Wolves - These Large, Intelligent Canines serve as skirmishers in your army. While their handlers cannot keep up with their pack in this role, they are more than intelligent enough to carry out orders. Suitably vicious to anything that threatens their pack. [Uncommon]
Frelki - Initiates, Acolytes, Apprentices; whatever you may call them, these men and women are practitioners of the Noble Arts of the Arcane. Their talent is rather limited and unspecialized, however. Can utilize Common Spells [Rare]
Simple Raft - This piece of Naval Technology is really rather simple; being a series of logs tied together. Crude, but can keep its few passengers dryish. Usually. [Common] [Mostly Obsolete]
Dugout Canoe - This watercraft is simple, though not the greatest example. It's cramped, and prone to flip over. It typically can carry only 1 person. Archery is difficult, slinging near impossible. However, it is relatively fast and agile. [Common]
Wooden Sailing Boat - A useable naval vessel, this boat is decently reinforced and protected, and sports a healthy cargo capacity. [Uncommon]
Arcane Sparks - With a flourish of the arm, a series of small magical sparks surges forth, exploding on contact. They only have about the same potency as a large firecracker though. [Common]
Exploding Stones - A simple sling stone enchanted with the Arcane Sparks spell. Extremely temporary and slower to 'cast' than its normal counterpart, though longer ranged and more powerful. [Common]
Blast Arrow - A heavy bronze arrow given the same magics as the exploding stones. A quirk in the magic renders it slow to cast and taxing; though a [Specialized] caster can potentially exploit this quirk. Is just as temporary as the exploding stones. Quite powerful. [Common]
Arcane Bolt - A stronger spell that's still basically a lump of mana thrown at the target. Much more potent than Arcane Sparks due to higher mana concentrations, though is rather inefficient. It is capable of killing a man instead of maiming at best, however. In spite of its cost, Lesser Magic Users can utilize it, though not all are capable. [Uncommon]
Rejuvenating Touch - Under the careful guidance of the caster, this spell will stabilize and slowly heal the wounds of the patient. The caster needs constant contact with the patient, or the spell will destabilize and unravel. Under its touch, patients become increasingly agitated and restless, but once released from its soothing grasp will soon suffer from exhaustion and hunger. Will not work on the starving.
The spell is exceptionally potent on the Tyrni for unknown reasons, but will reduce their lifespan. [Common]
