How likely is it for NPCs to throw things?
« on: September 25, 2018, 05:02:21 pm »

Will they do it if they have skill, or choose to throw miscellaneous things at enemies? Will they throw what they're wearing or their weapons at enemies, something odd like that?

Tantrumming dwarves often throw anything at hand. I recall angry chained dwarves hurling the seeds from their meals at passersby.

Has anyone seen an NPC throw a limb with lethal force that was just previously connected to itself?

I recall reading a bug where anything being thrown can kill targets.  The bug described a bucket of water being thrown killing an elephant.

I haven't. I suppose this may happen if:
- another character removes the limb from NPC
- uses the limb to bash the NPC in question
- the NPC wrestles the formerly-attached formerly-own limb out
- another character moves so far it can't be engaged in melee
- NOW the NPC has a chance of throwing the limb...

Can't be sure if the last point really happens. Would need some research - and luck. Normally the items wrestled from the enemies are used as melee weapons. Throwing isn't very popular amongst NPCs - and good, because it is deadly against flesh and blood opponents.

If only the worst that could happen is an eye taken out. Though even then, children play fighting would grow up into eyeless adults! d:

Fluffy Wambler -> Bronze Colossus is the most famous example of throw damage bugs, I believe.

I once killed the entire goblin population of a Dark Pits with a fish in melee. By striking them in the head and cheeks (slapping them in the face with it).

I had a visiting dwarf end a siege by ripping an arm off a goblin and clubbing the rest of the goblins and trolls to death with it, I do remember the arm being thrown around a few times.
