The Ultimate Soldier
« on: October 15, 2016, 04:41:17 pm »

Greetings.

Here be the chronicles of Zuglar Fashbomrek Korsidtomem, militia commander.  It is my goal to relate his rise to glory and his continuous feats as he becomes a truly ultimate soldier.  If you wish to see his current statistics (in the 8th year of the fort), please scroll down.

The following comes from non-modded 42.03 fortress by the glorious name of Tombsyore.

History to Present
In the spring of 5 Zuglar Fashbomrek Korsidtomem was one of the original seven dwarves to found Tombsyore for the glory of all dwarves.  He began (at embark) as Proficient in both striking and kicking.  Upon arrival at the fort he was quickly promoted to militia commander and given a place to train.  An encounter with a Kobold thief and the chasing of local wildlife built basic skills of fighting and wrestling.  With the arrival of immigrants an "A Squad" was created under his command and a danger room quickly installed.  His first equip was a masterwork steel sword.  Goblin invasions did not come for a few years so Zuglar built many of his early skills on simple exterior and cavern wildlife, and elvish (and later) human traders and visitors to the fort.  This killing of non-dwarvish traders has amusingly cluttered his notable kills with things such as, "a mule, d. 8."  After becoming Legendary in the sword, dodging, armour using, and the shield I endeavoured to begin him on Misc. Object User by having him bash creatures in with his masterwork steel shield, dubbed Vumomsterus.  He built this skill slowly at first, but I persisted.  With only moderate skill I had him solo a forgotten beast that was nigh indestructible but relatively not (very) dangerous.  In this epic fight exhaustion eventually overtook him and he suffered motor nerve damage and lost the ability to stand.  He now began to beat things with a crutch.  Despite this fight increasing his skills by great degrees (he was at this point a legendary fighter as well) his crippled condition severely limited his ability to learn and to fight for a few years and the first goblin invasions.  Despite this he continued to train, improving his general abilities and notably becoming a Legendary Teacher, marksdwarf, and archer.
In 12, 7 years after the construction of the fort, I began a mega project arena.  In late 12 it hosted its first small fight.  It draws on a large number of caged cavern creatures common in my area: elk birds, troglodytes, giant bats, giant cave swallows, trolls, helmet snakes, and giant cave spiders.  While mainly low key monsters, the creatures of my caverns make up for it in sheer number.  The first cavern level produces an extraordinary number of many of these, so many in fact that about 30 people in my fort are always working on caging, trapping, and setting them in the arena.
Zuglar meanwhile began to work with a whip and hammer.  My goal in this was that he would mainly be taught by a fellow A Squad dwarf who was in fact a Legendary Lasher.  Sadly because of the shear number of skills he was trying to learn he received very few lasher lessons.  In order to increase his crutch walking skill to the end goal Legendary +5 I made Zuglar go on forced marches across the map.  This compiled with his normal lessons lead to slow progress in both.  Now though in the year 13 Zuglar is Legendary +an unknown amount.

His Current Skills
As of year 13 (the 8th year in the fort).
Proficient Axedwarf
Legendary Swordsdwarf
High Master Hammerdwarf
Legendary Marksdwarf
Legendary Shield User
Legendary Armor User
Accomplished Lasher
Legendary Discipline
High Master Observer
Legendary Fighter
Legendary Archer
Grand Master Wrestler
Talented Biter
Grand Master Striker
Professional Kicker
Legendary Crutch-walker
Legendary Misc. Object User
Legendary Organizer
Accomplished Student
Accomplished Concentration
Adequate Leader
Legendary Teacher

He is absolutely inexhaustible, unbelievably strong, basically unbreakable, very agile and quite quick to heal.
91 Notable Kills
224 Other Kills

As mentioned above I am not using any hacks or added programs.  Thus while I am unsure, by watching his thoughts I can estimate that he is  Legendary +5/6 Fighter, a Legendary +2/3 Armour User, a Legendary +3/4 Dodger, Legendary +3 crutch walker, and Legendary (yes this does go up) +3 Misc. Object User.  Many fighting skills are uniquely unbounded (unlike craft skills which go up to +5) but sadly not all of his skills do.
Note: Some dabbling skills were left off.

Additional Information
If readers like this chronicle/challenge please let me know.  If it is also desired I can post hilarious fighting reports (ie: scratches the head and it turns into an unrecognizable mass), give detailed fort descriptions, and tell stories of Zuglar and his militia.
Keep Dwarfy and post any comments or questions - Zuglar.

I'm impressed with the biter / striker / kicker stats. I've always found it pretty hard to raise those once a dwarf gets some wrestling / weapon skills. Especially kicking skill is hard.

But yeah, this should go in either the DF general discussion or the Community games / stories subforum. You can move your post. There's a button somewhere for it when editing or looking at your OP.

Zuglar learned biting mainly from an immigrant who had no skills besides being a proficient biter.  I shall move it if I figure out how to or somebody tells me how

If you are looking the thread('s first page?), and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, there's a move button in the bottom left.
