Specifying group symbol on embark: which key? (.42.06, Mayday)

The key for designating group symbol is supposedly "?", but this opens the help interface instead.

? just means there's a broken key-link. Did you import the keybindings from a previous version?

Oh, ok. I downloaded the Mayday community pack and it must recycle old keybindings.

For others who find themselves in similar circumstances, adding

[BIND:SETUP_SYMBOL:REPEAT_NOT]
[KEY:y]

to "interface.txt" in data>init should fix the issue.
