Aquifiers B-gone
« on: February 02, 2016, 05:38:43 am »

Aquifier, the greatest enemy of the dwarfkind. If you don't want to spend your time setting up pumps and mechanisms, you should be ready to embark in the most boring locations you've ever generated. Or you could tinker with advanced settings, which can lead to infinite world rejections. Or you could play with raws for a while... or leave it to someone else!

Here it is: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=11732

This simple modification removes [AQUIFIER] tag from soil and stone.

You can disable aquifers in the .init file, can't you?

Not to my knowledge, no. It's not mentioned in either init.txt or d_init.txt. The wiki agrees that modding is necessary. Unless you meant dfhack, but even then it's not mentioned in the example dfhack.init file, and some of us don't use dfhack besides. I think that the best dfhack can do is drain the aquifer in your current embark.

I could be wrong, of course. I'm just not aware of a simple init tweak that removes them.

AFAIK the init tweak disables them, but if you turn the init option on at a later time you could have sudden flooding unless you walled your stairwell off (and Armok help you if you dug your farms or something in the aquifer layer).

There is a button on PE's Starter Pack that disabled aquifers.  You may be thinking of that.

It does this by search-and-replacing [AQUIFER] with !AQUIFER! in your raws (and the reverse when you hit it again).

Is this safe across versions? 0.42.06 for example. Have the the stone raws changed?

Edit: Nevermind. I didn't think it was as easy as just removing [AQUIFER] from the raws heh.
