A quick browse of legends in my brand new world reveals that one of the goblin civs is lead by The "Cream Fiend" Alnis Oozedie.
What is this? Some kind of marshmallow man?!

Pulling up the description reveals that Alnis is in fact a bog standard Hedgehog Fiend.
"Alnis Oozedie was a Cream Fiend. He was the only one of his kind. A gigantic feathered hedgehog twisted into humanoid form. It has a bloated body. Its cream feathers are patchy. Beware its deadly spittle! Alnis was associated with nightmares".

So, I've never seen this before. Is it usual for a demon's type to be it's colour rather than its base species?

I've seen it before, with slate gray devils and moss green brutes and the like. It seems to name them from one of three facets: their base species, their color, or their main feature (I've seen one-eyed demons at least, even they had the form of some animal).

I had "lemon demons" in a world long ago. That sounded adorable until I realized they were probably just light yellow demons rather than little fanged lemons.
