Leather vs. Aluminum
« on: February 12, 2014, 12:53:32 am »

Any idea what the relevant armor properties of leather armor is? I'm curious how it compares to the properties of aluminum armor, mainly because I'm curious whether or not aluminum armor would be a viable (If I could make it...) or superior alternative with regards to protection, but also encumbrance.

Well did a little testing in the arena. first round was 3 male dwaves with aluminum helms, breastplates, leggings, and copper warhammers vs 3 male dwarves with ostrich leather helms, breastplates, leggings, and copper warhammers. skills equal both sides. adeqaute hammerdwarf and master armor user.

leather won.

second round, new dwarves same set up as before this time with copper short swords as the weapon.

Aluminum won.

Maybe aluminium armour causes swords to glance better but crumples against warhammers?

I think war hammers are a bad testing medium for armour effectiveness, since they ignore it almost completely

Aluminum is also pretty rare and while it is lightweight, doesn't make for great armor.
