adjuststart.exe?

How do I use it? When I open it, a black box pops up for less than a second and disappears.

start menu -> run
type in cmd and press ok

type chdir and then the directory where adjuststart is located -> press enter

then type adjuststart.exe followed by the # of dwarves and # of points -> press enter

For example:

-COMMAND WINDOW-
> chdir C:\Dwarf Fortress\
> C:\Dwarf Fortress\ > adjuststart.exe 40 4000

DF will now have 40 dwarves and 4000 starting points. Just be sure you do this when DF is at it's main screen, otherwise it wont work.

I thought this program doesn't work in the new version?  Or has it been updated?

You can find detailed instructions on how to use it on the talk page for the utilities in the old wiki, I believe.

Didn't work for me in 33a, DF crashed every time I tried to embark after using it.

It worked for me in 33a. I ran it just before finalizing my site location; the next keypress brought me to the choice between "Play now!" and careful planning. Selected the careful planning, and there I had it; 10 dwarves with 3000 points. Note that the points you provide don't take into account all the starting stuff that it gives you; I had closer to 4500 points if I were to sell off the anvil and other goods.
