War questions editing raws

     Hello first post here, been playing this game like 10+ hours a day for 2 weeks lol. Very very complicated at first took me 3 hours sometimes to fully grasp a certain aspect out of many that are in this game by reading threads/wiki. Now after learning the majority of the game and successfully making a fort, im ready for more of a challenge wanting hostility with everyone.

     I did a good bit of searching and have some questions pertaining to warring with civilizations. From my understanding, making civilization's ethics polar opposites increases chances of war.

-Do I have to edit all of their ETHICs or just have one specific ethic for Dwarves and other civilizations at polar opposites?

-Does it have any impact on anything if other civilizations war with each other or at peace with each other?

-Does ETHICs in themselves do anything according to unit behavior?

-Also does REQUIRED and NOT_APPLICABLE do anything special?

     Also tying into wars is the INTELLIGENT tag and corresponding CAN_SPEAK etc.. I read removing INTELLIGENT and replacing with CAN_LEARN and CAN_CIV will increase war though the wiki doesnt mention CAN_CIV, token out?

-Is this just like BAYSNATCHER making the civilization hostile to everyone?

-Any side effects of doing this?

     Second thing I read is BABYSNATCHER causes ambushes and guaranteed hostility.

-If I add this to every civilization, they will snatch children/ambush me like goblins?

-Side effects?

     These are some of the things I came across, are their any other values to change that would help? And what side effects would they have? Also what are some values that can be messed with that are interesting/fun because there are a good bit?

-Like one thing I read is messing with ACTIVE_SEASON to make civilizations attack/trade year round instead of once.

-Would adding ITEM_THEIF to everyone make them theives like Kobolds? Any side effects?

     If you have any more interesting/fun values (dont have to be war-related) please share. Thanks  :D.

If you're looking for more of a challenge, you could simply try settling in an evil biome, or close to a necromancer's tower. ;)

Anyways, regarding ethics:
Editing the ethics of entities to be the polar opposites raises the chances of them going to war with eachother. There are no guarantees though. Basically: The more of the ethics that conflict, the greater the chance/risk of war. Changing the ethics also changes how entities interact with eachother. For instance, I believe elves and goblins tend to be rather peaceful to eachother, while dwarves and men start wars against the elves because they disagree about eating sentient beings.

So, if you're playing vanilla and want a lot of wars, you could simply copy the ethics of goblins to all entities except the dwarves, and everyone would pretty much gang up against you.

My first encounter with the undead was when I set up shop by every civilization and a Tower. Got sieged early by 3 undeads consisting of elf/human. Made short work of them and went back to normal. Then found out they respawn..... soon those 3 turned into 10 because of limbs and pets and suffice to say I was cleaned out. Too much of a challenge making them immortal heh

As far as I know, it just affects their chances/risks of starting wars with eachother. And I think it's really rather black and white there, either they're at war and hate eachothers guts, or they're at peace and will love you to death (No, not really, but they'll pretty much be neutral). :)

Ah, I better make them all friendly then so they dont kill each other off on world Gen, thanks.

Just came across this in wiki:

"It is possible to have multiple sieges at the same time. If the attacking civilizations are at war with each other, they will start to fight with each other as well."

Yea definetly going to make everyone hostile to everyone lol.

Not sure where people keep hearing about CAN_CIV, since it was removed from the game 3 years ago.

Searching the forums brings up threads pertaining to this topic from 2007 that gives advice at the time. Some of that advice still holds while others like CAN_CIV change.

     So I did as much as I know to try to cause wars (editing ETHIC,RELIGION,SPHERE,etc..), but the best I came up with is sometimes being at war with one civilization. I read that the red "-----" is a place holder until a better system is designed so it seems red dashes isn't that much different from "War" status and if thats true then doesn't matter if you are at War. Maybe War status lowers/ignores some parameters that determine attacks like pop value/wealth etc.. If anyone knows the true difference it would be great to know. Theres so much to modify you would think modifying War status would be easier, but I guess not.
