Serpent Woman Necromancer
« on: February 13, 2013, 09:44:40 pm »

So in my my recent world I have several necromancer towers, but as i glanced through legends I noticed that one of the first dwarf necromancers had taken on a serpent woman apprentice. She then took on a human apprentice of her own. Is this a common occurance? To have subterranean people come to the surface world for necromancy?

In my experience it seems to be fairly common.  Necromancy is an equal opportunity evil which only requires critters with CAN_SPEAK and CAN_LEARN.  I don't think the game looks at travel or how someone buried deep underground would find a tower and apprentice themselves or anything like that.

It's faster to write "!!science!!" than any of the synonyms: "mad science", "dwarvern science", or "crimes against the laws of god and man".

I almost lost a fort to a flying necromancer. Turns out walling your fort in ASAP because you know there's a tower nearby does precisely jack shit when the necro can just fly in and make their way to the turkey-processing area. My hunter shot the guy out of the sky and ended the siege, but before he did things got a bit...interesting when the food supply started revolting.

"Urist, the food is revolting."
"It's always been revolting."
"But now it's rebelling!"

I run into Serpent Man/Woman Vampires fairly frequently, who apparently live inconspicuously among human populations for decades if not centuries.

I'd go so far as to say that Serpent People are quite well versed at tempting humans.  8)

I'm not sure what the system for recruiting apprentices is, but it might just grab from anyone seeking a means to yadda yadda immortality.

Imagine a stubby man with a fiery mane and red beard, with brass skin and blue eyes. A member of an order of dwarven vampire hunters. Holy Judgement dictates serpant man vampires be executed by having their limbs removed as punishment for their sins, after which they are dumped into a dark hole and punctured with wooden spears until dead.

Armok be praised.
