Huh. I just got started with the game and my first quest on my first adventure was to kill some guy's outlaw father. I thought that might be fairly common. Not much of a story though, I drowned almost immediately afterward when I jumped into a river.

Older brother doesn't have the same ring to it.

I disagree, brother vs brother is much cooler than Son vs Father.

Pretty much how you learn in DF. I've lost count of the number of adventurers I've lost with a "Hey, I'm gonna try this!" approach.

I might hold the record for flooding my fortresses, though, losing seven before I finally figured out how to irrigate farms properly.

On a completely unrelated note, after playing this adventurer for a while and racking up a decent sized kill list (including one of the two the eras were named after) I got jealous and searched the history for the killer of the other (a hydra)

Turns out this poor dwarf got married right before he killed the Hydra, lost his hand to a shadow monster a year later, then became a general. He had only one son who died only after a few years of life.

Turns out I killed the Shadow monster who killed his son. Cue me getting slightly emotional over absolutely nothing.

And of course to add to my over all emotional wreck-ness, I had a child tell me about how a human vampire (me) killed a Shadow monster consort. I'm pretty sure that little bit of information shouldn't be known o_o
