Moderate your own game! (D20)
« on: September 17, 2012, 07:07:21 pm »

This is a pretty standard D20 game. Skills will go up from 1 to eventually 15, and rolls will be from 1-30, with the guide being as such:

0: Throwing mud at the ground.
5: Throwing mud at a baby
10: Throwing mud at a cobold
15: Throwing a dart at a board
20: Hitting an elf with a dart.
25: Hitting a bullseye
30: Hitting a bull's eye
Copy: Kobolds ate my baby

All skills are part of these sub-types.
Strength.
Nimbleness. (or agility)
Charisma
Brains
Miscellaneous

There are modifiers, but they come in later.

This is later!
The game is moderated by You!
No, not you specifically, You! The Player! It is your game now, and you can choose how it is played. I won't set a genre, I won't set classes, I won't set skills. You do all that! If a person makes a new skill up, then everyone needs to assign them a certain amount of points (From 1 to 6) based on their character.
In fact, I'll do barely more than watch. I'll perhaps push the storyline in a direction if it looks as though it will be interesting.

The very important rules:
1. Nothing can be vetoed: You cannot use your turn to undo one of the previous player's actions. If they say 'Attack this dragon with a stick', or 'Open the Airlock right Noooow', then that happens. (Unless you make a skill which will allow you to stop them. Or have time magic.)
2. Don't make yourself excessively powerful: It makes the game un-fun. Nobody likes a power gamer, ruining everyone's boss fights. Just make your skills according to your character.
3. No leapfrog posting: Otherwise two players together can push the game in a direction way away from what everyone else wants to go for. As soon as a third player enters, there's no leapfrogging allowed.
4. No kicking: Players can leave the main group at will, however, a player cannot be kicked from the group, unless they do something which would normally cause that (killing a player) or breaking the rules.

The balance rules: (Subject to change).
1. The skills system will be scissors-paper-rock. I.E. If you have a 5 or 6 in Stronk-type skills, you cannot have a 5 or 6 in Nimble type. Same goes for Nimble-Miscellaneous, and Miscellaneous-Charasmatic, and Charasmatic-Brainy, and Brainy-Stronk. If a new sub-type is made on the spot, it has to have everyone on that page agreeing with you, OOC.
2. No player can add more than 1 new skill upon making a character sheet, and 1 skill during the game. The exception is the first player to post, as they will be making the character sheets. As such, they will be allowed to add 5 skills.
3. Attacking a beast is your D20+highest fighting skill vs their Armor.
Attacking an intelligent humanoid is your D20+highest fighting skill vs their highest fighting skill + Armor
    Attacking a player is D20+hfs vs D20+hfs+armor
4. Characters can be resurrected by whatever means Only Once. After that, you can re-roll a character, and they will go on the end of the wait-list (if there's a waitlist).
5. Time travel, Intradimentional rifts and de-re-magic polarization rays can only happen once per FIVE pages.
6. Show your Rolls! Every-time you do something, put down [16+4/25] or something, so people can call you out if you're making something way too easy.

Story Start.
You begin in a dark and mysterious corridor. This corridor is very generic for the region and time you are in. You notice this, how average this corridor is- how it's made out of ______

Reserved space for character sheets, waitlist, skills, and plot summary.
Or none of that.
Or some of that.
Or more.

... made out of solid iron. A young recruit decides to ask a question. "Lieutenant Arthur Steelpistol, why did we have to turn the lights off? It's hard to see and stuff." Angered, the lieutenant turned toward the lad, pointed his gun-cane straight at the boy's forehead, and let out a blast before finally answering him. "To make a dramatic entrance, my friend. After all, we don't know what lifeforms may live on this planet, and we do have to make a good impression and all that." The lieutenant resumed leading his soldiers for only a fraction of a second before pausing again. "Oh, and gentlemen... don't let me catch any of you slacking. The Empress gave me strict orders to behead anyone with the gall to waste Her resources with 'idle time'. Though a few headless bodies might not be so bad - we do need more spare parts for building mech units." Steelpistol started forward again, leading his men and women to the boundary between their steam-powered spaceship and a new world. In the far back a group of new recruits whispered in excitement and fear. Would there be humans on this world, or strange alien beings? Magic and dragons, or pure science? Would the world be idyllic, or dystopian? Hopefully not dystopian, because that would be boring. Or maybe... maybe there isn't anything at all under the heavy clouds that cover the planet's upper atmosphere and prevent steampunk science from learning about the planet without landing on it, yet for some reason do not necessarily block the sun out or cause any other abnormalities on the planet's surface. The ship's doors opened, and the first one to see the new world was the lieutenant.

Strength skill - Muscularity
Agility skill - Dodgery
Charisma skill - Coercery
Brains skill - Steampunkery
Miscellaneous skill - I am leaving this open to the next poster. This means the next poster can create two skills, one miscellaneous skill and one other skill.

((I am not the lieutenant. I'll make a character later. As in, I'm reserving a character slot for myself. Also, note that the party doesn't have to immediately run into a sentient being, though landing in the middle of a goblin fortress might make the story a little more interesting.))

Edit: Crap, I'm supposed to make character sheets? Uh... how about this?

((Feel free to add stuff to the character sheet, or completely rewrite it. Did I mention that I am not the lieutenant?))

...So this is basically d20 Calvinball, then?

I'm in. Give me a bit to decide on a character after someone comes up with a setting.

d20 Calvinball
Nope, because the rules don't change (excessively). Just the story.

Steam punk in spaaaace!
My wildest dreams.

Also Lieutenant is now an almost-invincible NPC. Don't make too many of those, or I will turn them against you like a robot-rebellion.

Those aren't his real stats. I just posted random numbers.

Edit: I think that might mean the lieutenant can create a steam-powered helmet of omnipotence out of air with a 100% success rate as a free turn. So instead, let's say I wrote those numbers in Ynrinian units which, like decibels, don't follow linearly. Except these don't follow in a sensible (or consistent) order at all. This is a perfectly valid ass pull. In normal units, our friend's stats translate to:
Still pretty powerful. And please, everyone, write your stats in regular units. I hate having to take out my Ynrinian calculator. Oh, and there are no Ynrinians in this story.

You should probably change the "Important npcs" post. Ynrinian values are only useful when dealing with quantum probability and overcoming Heisenberg's uncertainty principle.

Bump of life.

I tried contacting TherosPherae since he reserved the second spot and hasn't used it up yet. He hasn't responded, so I suggest clearing the spot-reservation-queue and letting new players enter the game.

Oh, uh, there isn't a spot-reservation queue.
Unless people make it so. Hence the game.
