New Embark >> "is getting used to tragedy"
« on: September 03, 2012, 01:39:35 am »

First of all: I'm using masterwork mod. If there is anything there that describes what I'm about to write here disregard this post, thank you.

Brand new genned world. A Legion caste dwarf(Begins with Proficient at every weapon and learns them faster) is ALREADY getting used to tragedy.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Is that possible in vanilla?
Wasn't the First Seven newly spawned dwarves?
Hope I'm not making a fool of myself but I've never seen that before!
EDIT: I'm checking the RAWs but I'm not sure where to look at besides the castes.
EDIT2: After sometime I gave up...I just can't find in the RAWs anything that causes a dwarf to be accostumed to Tragedy without any history to speak of.

If you have Dwarf Therapist, check out his individual window. There should be the attribute responsible for the line.

Should it show on Dwarf Therapist that he is Tragedy resistant? Because it isn't.

On a side note he got 96 in Joy.
Also...I thought: Maybe he is like this because of the past of a deity he worships?
Nah...His deitys did nothing uncommon.

A pesimistic dwarf. I assume that the higher Joy level, the more emo he gets.

No no its quite the other way.
"He is often filled with joy."

That doesn't seem emo/pesimistic at all!
That's why I posted this here, he just doesn't seem to have any reason to grow used to tragedy.
It might be a random dice roll on his personality but that was a rather lucky  dice roll I think, since he will be my General that will teach the other dwarves how they stick the pointy ends of the spears at others.

You say this was brand-new, before settling anywhere?

I'd guess worldgen simulates tragedy somehow. Did the dwarf lose any family members?

AFAIK the embark dwarves are made out of thin air, at least I've never found one that had nothing but deities and other embarking dwarves relationship. ( I'm playing 34.09 so I don't know if later version changed it, I doubt it, though ).

For op, had you had other Legion caste members had similar thoughts right out of pack? It could be higher military skill randomly doing it.

No,its a brand new world I was checking what I got for my first seven before setting any job for each of them when I saw that.

He only knew two deitys, no friends or pets or family, as said before, The First Seven are made out of thin air.
I spent 3 hours reading the raws. Nothing points to that trait.

I think I just lucked out that my only Military dwarf of the First Seven beign resistant to tragedy out of the start.
The thing that proves that I haven't even embarked yet is that he has no "is a worshiper of" on the pic.(Just noticed that, never noticed that before btw)

Another pic I took from the embark scene:

I have had the same thing happen, and I can confirm that the starting 7 are created from nothing, not from worldgen.
