Hi,

is it possible, of has it been suggested on the suggestion thread that bedrooms should be able to designate themselves?
I like to have a bedroom for every dwarf, but the designation is too time-consuming for that.

I think they already attribute themselves bedrooms. At least that's what's happening in my fort

Dwarves will automagically claim an unoccupied bedroom when they get sleepy.

You only need to assign bedrooms to specifics dwarf requests like the noble demanding a certain grade of room

point of attention, I do not mean the assignment to individual dwarfs. I mean the designation as a bedroom based on a bed.

No, you have to designate them individually as bedrooms. However, any repetitious task can be made simpler with the use of macros. These allow you to record and play back a series of keystrokes quickly and efficiently. This will only work in your case if the bedrooms are evenly spaced.

ok, so I'm out of luck then. I do use a macro to designate my bedrooms, but appearalntly, I'll have to create one for beds, bedrooms, chests and cabinets.

I use 3 macros for bedrooms,

first:
to (d)esignate (d)ig's to a block of 4 3x3 with passageways
second, when its dug out:
to (b)uild furniture placement (1 bed in the middle, 1 chest, and 1 cabine [i used to also place 1 armor stand and 1 weapon rack, but learned they dont use em])
third, when the beds are placed:
to (q)uery the beds and set them as rooms

when recording the macros im careful to make them start and stop in such a way that its possible to use each repetedly to quickly place a row(or patern) of designations


thats all, the dwarves pick their rooms themselves, and the rooms need only their bed assigned

yeah, but I don't usually have everything handy when designating. I have the beds, but not enough chests or cabinets.. and don't forget the doors

You only need to designate the room as a bedroom once when the bed is in, anything else placed  in that room at a later date (a chest etc) will automatically become part of the room and owned by the bedroom occupant - at least in my experience.

That is correct in my experience as well.

I use the quickfort utility which makes it easy if your bedrooms follow a pattern.

I know that items placed in a bedroom become part of that bedroom and the owning dwarf. but you have to place them first...
