On population cap and that stuff
« on: March 28, 2012, 04:03:53 pm »

Whoah, another post of mine about population.  In the Init file it says "cap must be set to 80 for blah, 100 for all current game features" or something along those lines.  Does that mean the cap has to be set to 100, or does my population just have to rise that high over time from children/migrants.

>100 = mountain home

Setting and maintaining lower ensures your fortress remains low key and obscure.

Regardless of your pop cap, once your fortress population reaches the required level your fortress qualifies for the various options (e.g., Mountainhome at, iirc, 100).

Ah so I can set my cap to 50, and still reach 80 over time with children, thus resulting in a less explosive population problem.

You ought to know that that warning is hopeless out of date (if it ever was accurate)-- at least as of v31, you needed 140 pop to become a mountainhome.
