They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

I think what fredd means is; can vampires path through 7 deep water? This behaviour could be exploited for an automatic Vampire detector.

Don't believe they do, since on a prior fort when I had my vamp expand my water system, it exploded out of the well wall and left him in 7/7 water.  Didn't move for two years, had to empty the well, assign him an office, make him the manager/bookkeeper, and then reflood the well, the water actually had to push him near the exit I opened up to wall him into his office.

Grandmaster swimmer out of it though.

I burrow all my new migrants to a room behind the Depot. When they get thirsty, I let them out. If the never do, I make them manager/bookkeepers/lever pullers. Worked so far.
