What, you think over 126 years he never sat down to chat?

+1 to scorecard of paranoia.

Check the inventory of the dwarf.  Is he wearing 7,000 dwarf bone amulets?

The method i use which i expect will be fixed soon is
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You could also seperate each migrant wave then wait to see if anything bad happens to the newbies. Then maybe find a non cheaty way to determine the Vamp, maybe lock them up into pairs and magma quench anybody who eats his cellmate. Note though if you get 2 vampires in a cell they probably won't feed on each other. good luck with that.
Personally i wait till someone gets Bitten before searching, yeah i might loose someone important, but It's a bit exploity to cull them without no casualties, i may in future seperate my migrants.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Put all new migrants into a chamber filled with 5/7 water. If one isn't bothered by it, flood the chamber with magma and obsidianize them all.

They can breath underwater, so they don't worry about drowning. You're thinking of witches.  :P

i have a 126 year old dwarf

dwarves have [MAXAGE:150:170] so a normal dwarf that age would have nothing to fear from old age for another 24 years

Does this actually happen in fortress mode? I've never seen it.

Hmm, so if you created a burrow that a pit filled with 7 water separated from the main fortress, and assigned new migrants to it, any arriving in the burrow would be vamps? That has possibilities

Should you fail to comply, strict !!disciplinary actions!! will be taken. Also, we feel we should remind you that one of the "criminals" on your list is the chief medical dwarf. If he ends up too badly injured to do his job, you will be fired. Out of a magma cannon.
Sincerely,
The Administration

More like any that didn't drown/have bad thoughts while drowning would be vampires. So burrow them into the flooding chamber, lock them in, and fill it. If they're all okay, empty it and let them in. Otherwise, obsidianize them.

I think what fredd means is; can vampires path through 7 deep water? This behaviour could be exploited for an automatic Vampire detector.

Ah. Not sure; I haven't tested that. No reason why they shouldn't be able to, unless they still retain dwarven fear of deep water.

Only amphibious animals will path through deep water, so that's not a valid sorting method.

Running a human fort by accident in community games, I didn't know it was modded to allow human embarks, I suffered a vampire.  I looked through my list, and noted one who didn't have a nickname (thanks to Therapist).  When I inspected him closer, he has like 500 owned items, compared to everyone else who has 20-30 depending on if they have a bedroom or not.  When I look at him, his inventory is FILLED with human bone amulets, human hair rings, human tooth earrings, etc.

Historical figures keep a token from their important kills, and vampires gather a large number of same-race kills, so they wear a lot of jewelry made from their own species.  Except relatively young vampires may not have any.
