How about Depths of Peril or Din's Curse? They're both Diablo clones with rather large twists.

YS: The Oath in Felghana and YS: Ark of Napishtim are both japanese style action RPGs with a side of plataforming that would most likely work fine on your laptop. Gothic 1 and 2 are also good picks. Both are availiable on Steam too.

There's also this oldie action rpg-ish called Severance: Blade of Darkness that should work well on it. Its sort of a unknown gem from 2001 that never got much attention, but is actualy a pretty sweet action game with a rather complex fighting system for its time and very well done animations (done with motion capture). From the 4 characters you can choose, one is a dwarf

All of these are rather obscure action RPGs you likely haven't played yet, and all of them support WASD controls, AFAIK.

I'll second this. Very fun and focused on creating large combos and avoiding enemy attacks. Even on Normal difficulty, it's kinda hard.

Hmm, I've heard of YS, always thought it was console exclusive for some reason. Really hate the aesthetics of it, but might give the actual gameplay a chance if there's a demo. Probably should've mentioned in the OP I'm really averse to this style of console RPG. Probably because I grew up with a PC and never got to play these kind of games.

Severance I've played through twice, really great game. Can't get it to run normally on windows 7 for some reason, runs at turbospeed. My barbarian ends up doing a bizarre unending nuclear kazachok. Anyone know of a fix?

I've tried Din's Curse, I assume Depths of Peril is similar? Din's curse was fun but very basic, so I didn't play too much of it.

I played Torchlight once, vanilla, and I'm pretty sure I was sleep-playing by the end of it. I'm really excited about Torchlight 2 because it has coop and I got a buddy who loves this style of games, and that automatically makes even the dumbest games fun to play. Damn thing's not out for at least a month, though.

I might try Overlord, but I've heard it's really light on the rpg and action side and it's more about controlling your minions and evil kingdom? I'm pretty sure Overlord 2 won't run, because Xbox360 ports usually don't run well. Doesn't stop me trying them, but so far my greatest accomplishment is beating Prototype on two different laptops, with a respective average fps of 16 and 20 frames per second, so I'm not really proud of that.

I tried Gothic 2 a long time ago but it was hard as balls, so I gave up. Might have to try that again since I keep hearing good things about it, and from what I experienced it was a great game. Kind of weird controls, though.

Honestly I'm starting to suspect my own rotten mood is preventing me from enjoying anything at all right now

But please, if anyone else has a suggestion post it! Other people might benefit, and once I give it a night's sleep I'll go over the suggestions again! Also I really appreciate your efforts and will remember all of you fondly :]

You can give Prototype a whirl. It's a lite on the RPG (mostly it lets you pick ability upgrades, which you'll eventually have all of) but explosively action-oriented. YMMV on whether your system can run it, but if it's got a duo-core it should do reasonably well.
