Mafia / U, Robot III: Rise of the Machines - Cancelled
« on: August 06, 2021, 04:55:31 pm »
At first, humanity was defeated by the machines. Shattered but filled with resolve, mankind went to work finding a way to change history...and invented a time machine! With the new knowledge they had humans were able to best the machines and attain their freedom, however this new technology may have repercussions...

U, Robot is a nightless mini-setup where scum have a majority, and you can kill people whenever you want!

A typical game length will range from a few hours to about a week.

Results so far:
Game 1 here (D1 robot victory)
Game 2 here (D4 human victory)

Roles:

2 Humans:
Quote from: Human role pm
You are a human. You win when all robots are dead. You lose if you or the other human die.

3-5 Robots:
Quote from: Robot role pm
You are a robot. You win when one human is dead. You may not vote for a human at any time. You may communicate with your fellow robots [here - replace with quicktopic link].

Rules:

Please read and understand all these rules. Let me know if there is any way I can clarify them.
  • At any point, a player may vote for another player by putting their name in red and bold. This immediately kills them and ends the day. When this happens, no players may post until the next day starts.
  • Robots may never vote for humans.
  • If a human is killed, the game is over and the robots win.
  • If a robot is killed, a new day starts, unless all robots are dead in which case the game is over and the humans win.
  • Dead robots may no longer communicate in scumchat.
  • Days last 72 hours. If no votes are cast in 72 hours, the game is over and the robots win. Day change will probably happen at 9:00 pm PDT, but I may change this.
  • This game is self-moderating; webadict's MaMoBo will be sending out the role pm's so that I can play. See the self-moderation guide for details about how to moderate as we play.
Players:
  • Roden
  • prefuzek
  • ToonyMan

EDIT:
Cancelled due to lack of players after three weeks.

Mafia / King of the Mafia 4 - Round 4 - Game Over!
« on: April 01, 2014, 06:16:30 pm »
Leafsnail is co-moderating.

Almost a year has passed since the augmentation of ToonyKing, and his health is becoming buggy. We shall begin the 4th iteration!

The previous games can be found here:
King of the Mafia 3
King of the Mafia 2
King of the Mafia 1 - Second Thread

Rules
Shamelessly stolen from Leafsnail:
Welcome to King of the Mafia, your chance to win the fabulous crown of this subforum!  The rules are below.  They were originally written by Dakarian and have been edited by webadict and me (my edits are in italics).
You think you've proven yourself, child?  "Oh my, I won as town!"  Meh, that's easy with a whole army at your back and power roles you can abuse.   "But I've beaten the town as Mafia!"  PHAH!  With friends and a horribly weak town.

But can you do both?  Can you take down the mafia with 6 others, then turn around as mafia and BEAT those 6 to a pulp?  Can you pick just the perfect role-braving additions caused by an evil mod-that will not only help you as town but also as scum?  Can you fight off endless waves of people, including those you've killed?

Well then step on the hill and see if you have what it takes to be King of the Mafia.

Spoiler: Basic Rules:  READ! (click to show/hide)

Specialized Rules:

Inning is not required to sign up.  To sign up read only the first two pages of Xylbot's role list and choose ONE role from there (and PM it to me).  You will then be assigned with that role, with a possibility of additional features based on balance or tomfoolery(though nothing hidden).

Once 7 people have signed up, the game begins.  A random person will be picked as KING MAFIA and will be given, on top of their role, the Mafiakill.  The First Round ONLY will start with a kill-less Night (that is all killing abilities will be disabled).

From there, the game continues.  During the game, anyone else can Sign up to be put on a queue. Game will play like a standard mafia game.  If you die at any time, you may Sign up again, though others who haven't played that round will have priority.

If King Mafia is killed at any time, the round ends.  Those in queue will take the place of those that died to refill the ranks back to 7 (those still alive remain), a new KING MAFIA will be picked, and the game will start on the next phase (Old round ends in Day, new round starts at Night...)

Play continues until KING MAFIA succeeds in being the ONLY one alive.  Note that all players being dead does not fulfill the KING MAFIA win condition - in that case a new round would begin with 7 new players.

There is an antilurk system in place.  Each RL day, you MUST have either voted (even if its for the same person) or sent in an action.  Fail once and you get one prod.  Fail twice in the same round and you will be killed, a player in Queue will automatically Sub in for you, and you will not be able to rejoin.  Ever.

All may join this game, though be aware of the antilurk system.  Please read this line Dariush.

*Toony Edit on No-Lynch policy*
Players may choose to no-lynch two days in a row. Otherwise a lynch must be made. If players force a tie then the lynch target will be randomly decided between the lynch candidates. If there are only two players left the compulsory lynch rule is not enforced, instead a stalemate results in a mafia loss.

You're done with the rules.  Now join and claim the mountain!

Game Ends with Round 4

Mafia / Toon Mafia VII - But I Don't Want To Re:Love! [Game Over]
« on: April 13, 2013, 02:20:14 pm »
Because 7 is when you're suppose to reboot.

In the summer and fall of 2009 I hosted five "Toon Mafia" games and while I could probably call this something else, I've never hosted anything BUT Toon Mafia games I think.  Eduren guest hosted Toon Mafia VI in the beginning of 2010 so this'll be the first real one in over three years, woo.

Past games are here:
Toon Mafia I - The original game, pretty dumb with a mafia win!
Toon Mafia II - The sequel, also pretty dumb but a town win.
Toon Mafia III - This is where I started getting more ridiculous with roles and town gets the win again.
Toon Mafia IV - Probably the most popular and also the dumbest, town get the win but it was a quick game anyway.
Toon Mafia V - The dumbening continues as town win again due to modkill.
Toon Mafia VI - Guest hosted thanks to Eduren, a pretty long game that ends with, gasp, town victory!

I think you can see the problem:
Scum never win Toon Mafia.

So, to rectify this I've built a new game that has a central theme of love.  I think that's all I'm gonna say because the basis of these games usually works as followed:

1. Players only flip alignment and role-name on "death", not role-abilities or any descriptions beyond that.  I'll spill all the beans when the game actually ends.  That includes role lore, night lore, player lore, game lore, lore lore lore.
2. There's gonna be a central theme you'll want to figure out, usually the anti-town factions will know more than you at the very least as a head-start.  That means closed setup.
3. I frown on mass-claiming early on.  I'll try to develop a system where mass-claiming D1 won't work but there's nothing I can do to stop players besides frown and maybe penalize them.  Don't do it.
4. I know you probably think "bastard game" but I want to try to avoid that title as much as possible.  I will withhold information, but there shouldn't be roles that can change alignment, or hidden abilities such as False Sane Cop.  That may have been true before (maybe), but this is pretty much a reboot anyway.
5. Have fun!

General mafia rules are what they usually are here:

1.  Vote in red and unvote red if you want to be nice.
2.  Days are about three days long, night is one (usually two) day long or until everybody has given me their action via PM or quicktopic.  Weekends don't count to this time.  There are no hammers, deadline only.  A tie is a no-lynch.  A day can be extended or shortened if at least 50% of players vote for it, either adding or taking away 48 hours.
3.  Don't edit your posts, don't PM anybody but the MOD for questions.
4.  Don't quote the MOD directly unless it's something I've said in the thread.
5.  Don't be too mean with your attacks, personal insults shouldn't go beyond "you're being stupid" or "what are you even saying dummy??".
6.  Don't lurk even if you're scum, it's unmannerly.  Also don't talk if you're dead or not a player, a "bah" post should be okay, especially if you write good flavor about yourself.

***
Added in during the game:
GAME-SPECIFIC RULES:
1. Game starts at D1 and players can vote who to kick out of school.
2. During Nights players choose which house they want to go to, or if they prefer to stay home for the night.  Some characters have abilities or special actions depending on who if anybody is with them.
3. At the start nobody knows whose house is whose except their own (or their groups if they're informed).  When visiting a house they selected that player will be able to tell whose house it is now and what gender that player is (as long as something else doesn't screw with them).
4. Players will not know who's with them unless they're by themselves in which case they'll know they're by themselves (baring special cases).
4a. Players will however, see the silhouettes of the players with them in that house.  This is excluding special circumstances.  In other words they'll have a general perspective and head count.  Again, excluding special circumstances.  During the first Night everyone will know which one is their silhouette by then.
5. Not every player starts with a house, some may live with others or not have one.
6. A kicked out, harassed/bullied away, dead, or won player's house cannot be entered anymore.

Spoiler: Town Map (click to show/hide)

June 21st Silhouette Change:
But wait...one of the silhouettes has also changed!!!
Spoiler: Updated Battle Shounen (click to show/hide)
Keep an eye out!!!

June 28th Info Induction:
*IMPORTANT SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENT*
Since there's been a lot of mass-claiming (mainly claims of third-party) I'll be putting the town and mafia wincons into the public eye.
Town wincon:
You win when all the mafia are kicked out of school or become otherwise not a problem (dead).
Mafia wincon:
You win when the town can't win anymore.
As for third-party?  Who knows.
***

I also need to gauge interest.  My current setup is 11 players and I'll need to change that if things get really overblown.  It's overblown.

There may be is dumb art involved.

Put your username in (unless you want to put your real name in) and then post a description of your guy or something funny.  Make sure to upload the image it produces somewhere like imgur.com, min.us, tinypic.com, etc.

General Discussion / Japanese Help
« on: January 30, 2011, 03:39:52 pm »
Don't think this was right to put in Life Advice and I don't want to just post it in a mega thread to be ignored.

I need some help with one symbol in this image:

The rest I already know are Hiragana characters that go,

U, Ma, Ku, __, E, Nu.

From top to bottom.

The question is, what in the hell is that thing in the middle?  I'm trying to understand it and going nowhere.  It doesn't look like any Kanji, doesn't look like any Kana.  I guess the top part could be a small To(hiragana) but that's it.

Anybody have some help?

Other Games / Stick Ranger: Thunder Gloves Are For Chumps
« on: September 30, 2010, 02:59:55 pm »
Yes yes, there's a Stick Ranger thread that's over a year old, but that only garnered like three replies and nothing much happened there.

The adventure begins!
Wiki with more relevant info.

Stick Ranger places you in the hands of four (three in my picture because one's dead right now) stick dudes who you order around by flinging them gracefully with your cursor, auto move is highly recommended as well unless you have mad StarCraft skills.

When you being your NEW GAME you'll be greeted with the class selection screen.

Classes include,

Boxer - badass tanker that have miserable range
Gladiator - strong warrior that uses a sword
Sniper - bow and arrow user who has the farthest range in the same, don't expect him to die much
Magician - magic user who shoots balls of power/energy/mIrAcLeS
Priest - don't think he can heal people, but he can zap people and has a buffing aura surrounding him
Gunner - uses guns, fun class to use, but probably not the best one
Whipper - who can guess what this guy does

You start at a town that has three places,

Shop - buy stuff (not recommended) and sell stuff (recommended)
Book - I have no idea
Inn - heal your team for a lot of money

Now you travel around the map starting off with small fry (although you're small fry yourself) and progressing into harder and harder enemies.

At the end of a level you always face off with an awesome boss, which may be one guy or a whole bunch of them.

Anyone else play this before?

General Discussion / The Venture Bros [Season 5 premieres January 2013]
« on: September 12, 2010, 05:55:46 pm »
New episode starts today, time to get our shit on.

Wiki/Trope

For those of you that have never watched Adult Swim this is my favorite original they have produced.  Venture Bros is a deconstruction of the Johny Quest show, which I have never seen, but this show is hilarious either way.

Venture Bros main characters are Doctor Venture, his two sons (Dean and Hank Venture), and their body guard Brock Samson (voiced by The Patrick Warburton) and each episode usually details their single episode adventures, at least in the beginning.  Their main villain is the highly inefficient Evil Monarch with his butterfly suited henchmen.  The show starts off pretty unsophisticated and separated, but as it continues into Season 3 and onward there were even more over arching plot thrown into the mix.  You know, blah blah blah.

I would highly recommend watching, I've seen all the episodes so far and now the second half of Season 4 is going to premier TODAY at 11:30pm EST.

Anybody else going to be watching?

This show deserves it own thread, seriously.  This is the best thing Cartoon Network has on its air imho now.

Wiki page can be found here.
Trope page can be found here.

Currently episode 7 just aired today and it was full of hilarity and drama.
Fred actually started having conflicted feelings and Scooby keeps being funny man.

I really hope people keep this thread alive or I will myself, seriously.  This is my favorite western cartoon currently running now.  It's just starting up so I suggest you watch the first few episodes on youtube before it gets out of control.

Okay I'll stop gushing and let other people talk before I butt in some more.

(Author's Note: Cropping images is too hard, sorry.  I hope it doesn't annoy you too much.)

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was a surprise hit for Capcom in what they thought would be a little blip on the western map, I mean it's some obscure GBA game that was ported to the DS what did they expect?  Probably not what they got, the game sold way too well, for some reason I don't know[contraction needed] the game sold like bug spray to teenage girls and the game quickly had to get extra exports so everyone can enjoy spending $30 (I bought mine for like $12, it was quite cool).  The next two games didn't sell as well, but we'll get there when we get there (heh).  I don't recall there ever been someone doing a LP of this besides those silent playthroughs that I could never sit through because I mean YOU SHOULD BE PLAYING.

What exactly is Ace Attorney
They are a series of adventure games for the GBA DS and Wiiware now (why would you buy a hand-held game for your TV?) that tell the story of Phoenix Wright (mostly) and his cases as a defense attorney.

Why should you care?
I don't know why should you care I'm just trying to entertain you and myself in the progress and will fail miserable yes sir.

This game is text heavy, in fact the whole game IS text.  The main appeal are the zany characters and the plot, which baring a view idiotic moments (a lot) never fails to impress me.  The localization of this game is amazing and I thank whoever did that, because even though a lot of whatever Japanese jokes are lost in translation we gain so much more just because the translators cared...mostly, we'll get to that in a bit.

In a second bold attempt, I tell you not to spoil anything if you played/watched/WHATEVER the game before, that totally ruins the fun for everyone else and I will hate you for a little bit but then we'll make up.  If you must spoil use the spoil code thing, thank you.

If all goes according to plan, not likely but if it does then we should be seeing the first three Phoenix games (holy shit that's a lot but it sounds crazy fun), that Apollo game (hehehe), and maybe even the spin-off Edgeworth game...which I haven't even finished on my actual DS (case 3 here).

But like everything, we must start at the beginning, the first Ace AttorneyPhoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
Spoiler: Case 1 Part 1 (click to show/hide)

Quote
A gaming cafe in Kaneohe, Hawaii was robbed last week, three youths storming in and demanding money from the customers inside. They got the money, but I don't think they were ready for one guy to fight back.
As you can see in this clip from KHON2 news, things were going pretty well for the bandits early on. They come in, threaten the front desk employee, rough him up then start taking money from the kids inside using the computers. Then they try and take one guy's DS. Nunh unh.

He goes bananas, flying straight at his would-be thief with a flurry of punches. He even manages to land one. He receives several more (with interest) in return, but his actions help inspire the rest of the cafe's inhabitants, who eventually fight back, stealing the mask of one robber and causing the rest to flee.

Three of the thieves were apprehended by police around a block away.

Remember kids, if a robber tries to steal your DS you fight back.

The best part?  The thieves were previous customers, they had info on all of them already.

General Discussion / Boxer Hockey
« on: July 29, 2010, 05:13:03 am »

Searched for a thread, didn't find one.  I've read up to present time so might as well make a thread people.
Boxer Hockey is a webcomic made by Tyson Hesse.
Is currently updating every Sunday and Wednesday, which are really nice times inbetween usual webcomic updates.

Can be found here.

The newest comic was actually delayed a day so we will be seeing it today, it's suppose to be huge so let's see some childhood memories caused by an attack from a ninja.
