I was looking for Skyrim dinosaur mods, and found a reupload of Birbwalker21's raptor mod that I had posted. I had completely forgotten that I did that. The reupload has been played over 34,000 times.

Has to be the dead civilization. Grudges gotta grudge. Also wanted to suggest that this fort should collect some big animals. In my experience, war animals excel at off-map genocide and you can get a lot of them together pretty easily.

I have to disagree, I think you can still play almost anything and have it be viable. I usually play humans. I'll admit I'm usually not committed enough to a run to minmax, but when I am, I do the trick where you go out into the wilderness and wrestle birds for a while. The end result quickly develops maxed out physical attributes and combat skills, and then it's easy enough to steal some decent armor. Grappling is still dangerous, but if I can't break the grapple normally, putting a sword through the opponent's head or neck usually kills them or paralyzes them into letting go. If I want even more power after that, I can get vampirism, necromancy, and/or a swarm of followers to soak up hits.

Even after all that, there's still a chance of randomly dying from an unlucky wound, but that's always been true.

Part of it is that the game is deliberately targeting a very specific kind of nerdery that will understand a lot of military and midcentury political things before starting, so the game doesn't bother to explain them.

I think this part might actually be the opposite for me. I’m interested in the history, but the fact it’s a video game means what I know will unpredictably become useless whenever game logic takes over, like in Space Marine divisions, or trying to figure out if the AI is smart enough to make the navy and amphibious invasions important.

I tried Hearts of Iron IV again. I'm 37 hours in and the game still feels completely incomprehensible. I like to think I'm alright at complicated games. I've managed to learn Dwarf Fortress, Stellaris, Rimworld, Myst, but HOI IV though, I start up a match and it feels like the game is speaking a foreign language the whole time.

I think I've said it before, but I consider HOI IV my personal gaming nemesis. I really would like to get into the game, I love the idea of it, but I've never managed to penetrate the mechanics.

I played Democracy 4 for the first time today.

Had to leave after 3 terms, although my party did win 88% of the vote in the next election. (Didn’t plan ahead far enough to eliminate term limits entirely). No more trade unions or freedom of the press unfortunately and America is a functional one party state with a 36% reduction in democratic protections, but crime is down 65% (41% considering only violent crime) thanks to the massive increase in the police, we have perfect gender equality, working free healthcare, a clean environment, a Mars program, and average lifespans are up 64%.

Oh yeah, and there’s been a 20% reduction in religiosity. YMMV on that, but religious people and trade unionists didn’t support me enough so they had to go.

Thought I've had since Starfield came out: I find the discourse around Bethesda games somewhat annoyingly predictable. Ever since Oblivion, the exact conversation I see online has always been "(New Bethesda game) isn't anywhere near as good as (previous Bethesda game)! It's too dumbed down and simplified. Of course, it's much easier to get into than (second to last Bethesda game), that one is pretty dated and could use a remaster." I expect that when another Bethesda game comes out, people will be talking about how much worse it is than Starfield at the end of its development cycle, with its DLC and mods.

You’ll really want to add a bunch of random mods before you start this, not after. World saves can barely handle adjusting existing files, and adding anything significant won’t actually work.
