DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Vampire highscores
« on: April 30, 2012, 02:48:55 pm »
So, recently back from a break from DF due to other stuff, I gen up a new world and go for some adventuring. The first guy in the town immediately sends me off to kill a vampire who killed 1063. Reckon it's a pretty impressive number. Another vampire I was sent to kill had 298.
So, how many kills did the vampires you encountered have? Who was the absolute champion? While we're at it, how many kills have you had as a vampire, if the number is significant?

Edit: just after posting this, I was sent to kill a vampire with 1756 kills on him. Not bad.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Every castle is abandoned
« on: July 05, 2011, 09:04:25 am »
And that's the problem. Every castle I find on every single world I make is inhabited only by wildlife. So far I have only found one exception on one world, and it was pretty underpopulated as well. DF is unmodded, basic .25. Has anyone else encountered that, and has it been fixed anyhow?

Do tiles of rock caving in punch through stairs or not?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Blessings of Armok
« on: November 06, 2010, 06:44:59 pm »
Lately there's been quite a lot of awesome stuff happening in DF - the creation of the awesomest world so far, the creation of the quintessence of dwarfiness in artifact form, the appearance of the daughter of Armok (although this may have been a Mary Sue attempting hostile takeover, regardless, she broke the PC she was on), the appearance of giant divine metal spires piercing the sky, surrounded by great mountains made of semi-molten rock and magma... aided by the usual stream of awesome names, battles, fortresses and just events...
It seems that we've all been blessed by Armok. Those events are his signs that we're going the right way! And this is all a sign that we must rejoice! Bring out the beer, wine, ale, sunshine, whatever you want! Drink up, slaughter goblins, build ridiculously complicated and pointless things, trigger thermonuclear catsplosions, all in all, praise Armok! His blessings are with us!

Probably every Dwarf Fortress player has had a case of this. You know what it is the moment you look at it. Things like 'The Romantic Boulder' or 'Urist Romanceglazed', 'Artifactname the Narrowness of Murder' or 'The Furnace of Grease'. The unfortunate, funny, or downright hilarious names the random name generator likes to pump out so much.
Let's try and post the funny names we run across here!

My most recent ones are a fortress called 'Routedmansions' (guess what !!happened!! to it?) and the civs 'The Tactical Tusk-Treaty' (bonus points for the T), 'The Hammer of Speech' (TALK TO THE HAMMER) and 'The Armored Syrups' (what.).

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Awesome moments - Post yours here!
« on: October 30, 2010, 02:15:23 pm »
The most awesome moment (or, well, a series) I had in Adventure mode was with an axedwarf. A freshly minted adventurer, he set out to explore the world, training on overconfident cougars, lions and jaguars along the way. Then I wandered into a desert.

Cue an almost instantaneous ambush by a giant desert scorpion. It was my first encounter with one, and from what I'd heard from my adventurer was doomed. The scorpion smacked him with one pincer and grabbed him by his leg with another. The axedwarf then proceeded to methodically chop off its legs and smash it until it stopped moving, only suffering a yellow wound on the leg and another one on his left arm. He chopped the corpse up and continued his journey.

This wasn't over, though. After some time - still in the same desert - he gets ambushed by TWO giand desert scorpions. Even considering the outcome of the previous encounter I thought he was doomed again. My dwarf didn't think so. He proceeded to block every single attack by both of them with his shield (and if he didn't block something, his armour did) and repeat the dismembering procedure on both of them. One ended up with a crushed stinger and both pincers missing along with three of its legs. The other one had only one pincer chopped off, a very damaged thorax and didn't have rear limbs anymore.
And I repeat, in this fight he was completely unharmed. Against two giant desert scorpions.

But this wasn't over even then. After two or three tiles he got ambushed by yet another foolhardy giant desert scorpion. The fight ended in TWO STRIKES. With the first one, the axedwarf cracked the scorpion's thorax. With the second one, he utterly destroyed its brain. And then it was truly over, and I (and probably him too) felt absolutely awesome.

Nothing else bothered him on his way out of the desert.

Edited for typos.
