To each his own I guess. To me it was one of the better offerings Marvel has put out in recent years, which isn't saying much considering the general dip in quality and creativity the MCU took after Endgame, but still.

Anyways, on to something completely different this time around.

Reservation Dogs is a Hulu show about a bunch of native teenagers living in a reservation in Oklahoma. It bills itself as a comedy drama and I guess that's an accurate way of describing a show about a bunch of folks dealing with life while occasionally it gets hilarious or weird. But it's so much more, I wanna call it a reverse-americana show but I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate or if there's an actual term for it. Where it depicts a run-down and decaying community that's still somehow holding against the odds, how the majority of the folks are broken in some way or other but hey, they keep on trucking and sticking together, more or less. And for all the humor and levity it squeezes in, it dives into some heavy shit fairly early on, in fact the majority of the first two seasons are kinda shaped by the events in question and how everyone is dealing with them.

Plus it's doing that rare thing some shows manage of getting me to learn and use weird new phrases or ways of saying things which I really like. Skoden fuckers!

It is one of these shows that is incredibly funny and also horribly depressing.

I had read that Henry Cavill isn't going to continue as Geralt in the 4th season of The Witcher and will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth.

Slightly surprised as Cavill seemed to really be interested in the character (and was acting very well the role), having read the books and etc..  but not surprised as with the 2nd season the show became very bad fan-fiction garbage (so much i was already surprised they had a new budget allowed to make a 3rd season...) and if you're really interested in the character and the story from the books it must be disheartening to see how those TV show "writers" butchered both stories and characters.

That and he's going to star in a new Superman movie of course, meaning a lot more money coming his way :D

Finally finished the third season of My Brilliant Friend (based on the Helena Ferrante books) the other week and god is that a brilliant series. I can't recommend it enough, it's probably one of my top ten tv series

Yeah the moment the witcher stopped being about the witchers and went off-road drifting into the most generic YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE with chars just teleporting everywhere the plot needed them to be I got very bored. Especially when that one sinister general dude just accepted the coup against him, the murder of all his loyal lieutenants, and kept defending that one sorcerer even though she no longer had any leverage over him? Puzzling

What's it about

It's a... time-piece, I guess I could improvise a genre, about Italy in the post-WW2 decades, as seen from the perspective of the intellectually gifted girl Elena "Lenu" Greco who grows up in the Neapolitan slums. Topically it's about nationalism (Neapolitan vs (north) Italian) and national identity and national shame, class struggle and class guilt, fascism and socialism and feminism, the nature of the mafia's relationship with the lower class that they prey on, and Lenu's fellow children/youths of the slum, and of course her complicated relationship with her complicated titular friend.

Great production values, great actors, very relatable characters, made by HBO together with an Italian network in the Italian language (or Neapolitan? I wouldn't be able to tell). Based on the trilogy by Helena Ferrante, a supposed autobiographical trilogy written under a pseudonym that's still a secret; allegedly great books in themselves but I have not read them.

I watched a couple of episodes of the Quantum Leap reboot. That was enough for me.

First episode culminated with the pacifist/nerd character punching the bad guy in the face in order to safely and easily incapacitate him with a single blow. Then he disposed of the bomb by throwing it in the sewer, ran to a safe distance, and he still felt the need to do a superman-dive away from the controlled explosion far behind him. At this point I've got a pretty good idea of what kind of show this is going to be.

The first episode also set up a halfway interesting mystery, where the main character started acting in an unexpected manner, breaking into his office and reprogramming his computers for no apparent reason. Now, it's a time travel show, so it's pretty obvious to me that this is a future version of him with motives we have not yet learned about; weirdly none of the other characters seem to pick up on this. Still, I'm mildly curious to find out what's going on, so I watch a second episode. The second episode is a completely self-contained arc, and it's now apparent to me that the rest of this show is going to be like this, only returning to the main arc in the finale. And yeah, watching a bunch of short stories full of poorly executed cliches just to eventually get back to something I barely care about...nope. Two episodes and I'm done.

Dark

I'm thoroughly enjoying this.  (And how is this show 5 years old!?)

Finished watching a competition show called Baking Impossible which was quite interesting.

The premise is 9 teams comprising of 1 baker and 1 engineer compete to win $100k in various engineering feats which have to constructed from baked goods.

They get increasingly difficult as the competition goes on.

Highlights being a car that gets crash tested (they are given a basic chassis to build around) and a 5ft tall skyscraper that gets earthquake tested.

I could imagine them making a practical hand-Baguette, for the stylish lady with no pockets.

And a nice pair of Loafers for her husband.
