Adventure Mode Challenges
« on: January 31, 2012, 01:07:26 pm »

Alright, I've been getting a bit bored of just going out and killing stuff, so I decided to look up some challenges for adventure mode.

Thing is, there weren't any.

Therefore, I've decided to start this thread where people can think up stuff to make adventure mode more interesting/fun.
For example:

Super Survivor
You cannot buy food or drink
If you're a(n):
Human or Goblin:
You must eat and drink regularly (3 meals a day, 8 drinks a day)
Failure to drink more than 3 times a day for more than three days/eat more than 2 meals a day for one week equals death (due to your vigorous
    lifestyle).
Dwarf:
You only have to eat once a month, but you also have to drink a barrels-worth of alcohol/day (you can buy alcohol).
Failure to drink at least a barrel/day for more than three days means you rampage at the nearest castle/ kill all your companions.
Elf: In addition to the requirements for Humans/Goblins
You can't eat plants, can only drink water, and must only eat food you obtain from slain enemies.

Get the idea?

Here's one I came up with a few days ago, but haven't gotten to, yet.
Create a brand new world. Build a fortress in a random spot.  Collect adamantine, and get a legendary armorer.  Create one type of armor from the adamantine, until you come out with a masterpiece.   Throw all the rest in the magma, and let the fortress crumble, or hide the armor piece as you see fit.  Create another fortress, do the same thing, until you have created all the pieces, one at a time, to a full set of masterpiece armor, and then make your weapon.  (This includes a separate fort for each boot/gauntlet)  Adventure, and build your armor as you go!
You can also include fun things like a cloak, backpack, and waterskins/flasks to collect, but only one per fortress ruins!

Start as a peasant and conquer the world?
Not sure if this is a challenge but I'll suggest it anyways.

Edit: better idea, become a peasant and kill everything; then try and start new life?
(if that's possible)

Pierce the heavens: Fight only with giant corkscrews.

Mind over matter: Minimize all physical stats.

Fibonacchi sequence: Kill every enemy after first one with a part or equipment of the previous one.

Legendmaker: Get a follower into history as a greater hero than you.

Dwarf fortress ethics.
Of course there's an ethical way to train doctors! Toss children off short cliffs. Since they're not useful adults, injuring them isn't a waste of valuable labor, and since they're not nobles, it's ethical to use short cliffs instead of tall ones!

Using genesis mod to enable bone and leather crafting in adventure mode:

- Start as outsider peasant dwarf (/human if you're like me and tend to add so much evil dwarves never make it)
- Do not visit any towns, ever
- Do not use loot equipment: you are only allowed to use what you make (in practice: bone and leather weapons and armour, although the mod gives a few exceptions)

Meh, enough challenge for me, it's what I'm doing now every time. Makes it extra cool when you finally make that sea monster skin cloak or dragon bone sword.

It is said knowledge is like a foul-smelling herb. It must be cooked well and thoroughly with experience to make it palatable. A young scholar's knowledge is therefore not only worthless but disgusting. -- In Dwarf Fortress you have another paradigm. Gather as much of that smelly herb as you can and toss it at your enemy, fracturing his skull through the +capybara man leather cap+.
