The mobile gaming thread
« on: January 31, 2012, 01:24:01 am »

This is the place to discuss forms of mobile gaming, namely iOS and Android.

My only requests are that you stay on topic, and be civil.

Starter topic: what is your favorite mobile game? (Besides angry birds.)

Wrong section. You can move it to Other Games yourself, it's in the lower left corner, I believe.

Oh I was considering making a topic like this at some point.

Uh, I would give out a recommendation to Song Summoner by Square Enix, and War of Eustrath, both being turn based strategy games that manage the feat of having full sized complex storylines while being on an Iphone.

The unique thing about Song Summoner is that you generate all your troops using songs in your music library, you input a song and a Tune Trooper is created. And then when you listen to those songs the game keeps track of it, and awards you points that can be used to level up the relevant Troopers.

War of Eustrath plays sort of like Super Robot Wars, which is pretty appropriate as it's essentially giant robots inserted into your basic Medieval Fantasy, and is a remake of an old computer game called Battle of Youstrass. The plot is pretty good, with quite a few branching paths, though the dialogue has the occasional spelling and grammar error due to being translated but it's not that often.

Hook Champ is great fun. And incredibly difficult.
RocketCat made a couple successors, but none of them were anywhere near this game.
Basically, you grapple around a temple while being chased by a monster.
You're also racing a ghostly copy of yourself from your best run in that temple.
And there's shotguns, rocket boots, exploding bats, lava, acid, and one of the temples has you playing as some guy from Minigore and shooting a horde of fuzzy enemies.

Might I broaden this thread's subject matter to include games that would play well on a windows tablet?

I don't think that windows mobile is popular enough to have a good discussion, but you're more than welcome to try.

I love love LOVE words with friends, but all my friends cheat. Username "teddykyle" if anyone wants to play me.
On my Asus Transformer tablet, I play Galaxy On Fire 2 (a VERY well-done spaceship adventure game) and World of Goo (a construction-based puzzle game.) Both of them are worth checking out if you have an Android tablet or an iPad.

Not windows mobile.  Full Win 7 on a mobile device.  I haven't found many games for Windows that have a purely touchscreen friendly interface.

What one do you use?  I can't seem to find one that works.

EDIT: Woops, nearly forgot about that.  Thanks Frumple.

Jetpack joyride= fun
Monster dash = fun
Age of zombies = fun
... I guess I should just say halfbrick studios = fun.

I also enjoy 'lords and knights' and runFootball. They are essentially old school browser games.

I had a blast with airport mania 2 and hey where's my water, I should add...

Oh oh and Samurai, having a blast with multiplayer games in the excellent port of samurai ( unfortunately an iOS only release, I'd like to be able to take turns on my android phone when I don't have my iPad handy)

Eh, I don't think Paypal is going to come to the Market anytime soon. Google keeps saying they are going to do it, but I doubt they actually will.
