Sargento, there are a few Atlas class freighters in action now. I’ll put you in one. I can make you existing the captain of one; alternatively I can make you a different person and assign you to one. If you choose different person you can give me some sort of parameters for the type of person you want and I’ll try to find a match.

NRDL, yeah, I am having a good bit of fun with this and am scared for CK2 to come out… I have not downloaded the demo out of fear… But, I think I may be able to fanangle my time to play both games. Hopefully.

As for the merger talk, is your “Huh” On the record? The media would love to have comment from Nix himself. Scotty Sheb Haan’s rumored statements about anti-trust laws sound entirely too lawyer/PR orchestrated and will likely not act well to squish any rumors- even when one insider claims he has straight up heard Sheb say a merger is not in their best interests.

Xeron, you can take command of the Island class tourist resort in orbit of earth, or a Horizon class asteroid mining space station currently operating off… umm, some asteroid, #14, #64, one of those two I think. Alternatively you can become an unassigned person and wait for a military class space station to be built. Note, commanding the Island and/or Horizon can be considered space station experience and permit easier transfer to another command in the future. Like with Sargento, I can make you the existing officer or you can be a new and be given the assignment.

Korbac, your ship is a nifty little vessel. The Enforcer is a fast attack craft equipped with a decent 10cm railgun. At the moment it is the most dangerous ship in the solar system. But at the moment it is also the only armed ship in the solar system. I’ll politely advise you to consider transferring to a new ship once one is available. Your experience on the Enforcer will be great for getting you access to bigger/better designs- but to stay in the Enforcer too long could limit your progress. Pretty soon it will be completely outdated.

Sargento (again), that is why I am happy I run 1600x1200 (well, I should say I am happy I can run) on a 25”. I would be a sad panda if I had the troubles I hear a lot of people talk about. Not to show off but… I can fit the system map and event log onto one monitor quite easily (there is overlap, but assuming I don’t get more than a half dozen events per cycle I never need to bring the event log on top). And then I can just bring up temp windows (research, class design, industry, etc.) as needed. That leaves my second monitor free for browser (aurora wiki, this page, etc.), snagit editor, ftp app, and sometimes even a Netflix movie.

I’m just annoyed that I’ve been sick the past two days. Some weird stomach bug that lies dormant during the day but seems to act up at night… That is why my updates are so short recently, just no desire to sit at the computer when I have access to it. I’d say good news is I am feeling fine now, but I did yesterday daytime too.

And remember, although I am playing with automated political bonuses and automated promotions turned off, I am applying my own version of political reliability to the game. So if your character is not necessarily the greatest at his or her job that doesn’t mean you will never command the best ship(s).

Oh and one last thing… it is another election year! Governor Perego is up for reelection in December. Right now no one has really stepped forward to run too hard against her, but it can be assumed that former Governor Mcbroom will and it is likely that some of the other contestants from last election season will, such as Lush, Hewlin, and others. There have also been a few newcomers to the political field who carry strong qualifications. I’ll try to summarize some of them later.

Yes, the "Huh." ( no question mark ) is on record.

I support the current governor, as long as she supports Nix Labs in future endeavors.

I'm really liking this RPing ( that is not on record ).

We at Haan Industries strongly discourage the building of any more armed ships. Intelligent life is a by-product of history, and we're not likely to meet other space-faring races. Any more military shipbuilding would be a waste of critical ressources that are much needed for expansion and mining at a time where our Trans-Newtonian supplies are so low.

We suggest that Governor Perego keep her focus on exploration and development and not to waste our ressources on fanciful ships to satisfy our Admirals' ego. Haan Industries is prepared to make generous campaign donations to the Governor's campaign is she espouse those sensibles positions.

"Did you hear what Scotty Haan said earlier on the teleweb, chief? Says we don't need any fleet!"
"Yes I did, Private. I know Scotty Haan is usually a man with a sturdy head on his shoulders, but that proposal is just ludicrous. We could be conquered the moment we encounter a hypothetical Space Yak!"
"He said he wanted to save resources..."
"That is all well and good, I agree. But cuts to the military at this early stage in our spacefaring lives? Too dangerous a proposition for my liking, I'm afraid.

... There is also the little fact that I'm waiting for my bigger cruiser."

March 5, 2036
Erin Fuest finished her work on the Jump gate Construction Module for Haan Industries. As a part of her contract with HI, the technology is now under a five year exclusivity contract with the company. Haan Industries has been working to get their partnership Haan-Newgate shipyard running at a reasonable capacity, but it still has some ways to go. Unless Haan builds on the Wessel Space Project or Palomo Shipworks yards, the new technology will have to wait. Even then, neither of those yards will be ready for retooling until 2038 at the earliest- not to mention there is no actual use of a jump gate constructor yet.

Four Haan Industries Magicman geological survey vessels have rolled off of the slipways of Unity Two. After much waiting and anticipation earth can finally begin investigating for potential jump points in the solar system. Governor Perego has recalled Captain Chaoticag back to earth immediately. He will be transferred to command of the lead Magicman- the orders coming directly from the top.
Commander Donn Knopp, captain of the second Xplore mod 1, currently inactive, will take up the process of surveying outer belt asteroids where Chaoticag left off.

In a joint press conference Scotty Sheb Haan and Nix have announced that their work on the Orion project has come to fruition. Nix Labs and Haan Industries have developed a breakthrough new Nuclear Pulse Engine Technology. The two companies have gone to great lengths to keep the engine technology secret until practical designs can be developed. Technicians and scientists at both firms are beginning work on potential practical designs for use in new ship designs.

Nix and Haan have released specs on the two finalized Nuclear Pule Engine designs developed as a joint effort between their companies.

They have also revealed their answer to governor Perego' Earthworm class demand.

HI - EMS X1 (1)     Sensitivity 6     Detect Sig Strength 1000:  6m km
Gravitational Survey Sensors (1)   1 Survey Points Per Hour

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes
The ship utilized the Haan Industries HOTBOX and EMS sensor suites as well as the Nix Labs gravitational survey sensor. With a range of 166.6 billion kilometers, the Earthworm makes an ideal distance scout and grav survey ship.

Governor Perego accepts the designs immediately and orders the Unity Naval Yard retooled for the Earthworm immediately. The first two Earthworms will be available in just over one year.
Some consider her push to see the ships built as an effort to improve her image with the voting public.

July 8, 2036

Lieutenant Commander Dylan Lesmerises has discovered a jump point.
The news has peaked the fear and curiosity of the world. Doomsday cults are declaring that aliens will burst through the jump point at any moment and kill everyone on earth. Expansionists are calling for immediate probing of the jump point once a ship capable of doing so is built. Some military leaders feel that Governor Perego should order Enforcers stationed near the jump point. Traditional religious leaders warn to stay away from the anomaly. Whatever the opinion, they are flying strong all across earth.

I'd like to point out that the NPE Micro Orion E9 is a Haan Industry exclusivity.

How much time until our shipyard can produce Gate Builder? If more than 18 months, we'll try to rent one of the other shipyard.

With our labs now available, our top Propulsion scientists should start work on the Mega Orion, a larger, safer version of the engine for use aboard our Gate Builder and other civilian ships (Aka, a civie engine). Then design a Gate Builder and launch production of one. Sure, it's an investment, and an heavy one, but I'm sure it'll pay.

Also, when ( or is it already? ) the Orion project is done, what else can Nix Labs research?
heh, yeah. Enforcers are the only military ship.
Earth has six Fortitude missile bases, but they are effectively useless against anything that is not earth itself. Their chance to hit on a moving target is non existent and their missiles might even be slower than the original Xplore. They would destroy any freaking thing they manage to touch, though.

Nix Labs has a few options.... Given the current resources available these are the choices your advisers deem most appropriate:
*Focus on component design. Use existing theory tech to build new/more practical components. There is a ton of missile research with no practical application right now. You could license some of the baseline tech from Numbers Leno over at Pelland Research and make some actual designs. This applies to missiles and active sensors.
*focus on genetics. You, nix, are the world's foremost genetisist. The human genome project is your playground.
*branch into sensor theory. No firm on earth has a sensors specialist. Ever since Maria Pelland died, at least. Doing so will likely piss off Pelland Research, since they own the current active sensor tech and other related tech.
*go big into mil spec ship design. Pelland has the enforcer, you have the Xplore. Sure, Haan has the Magicman but they seem to be focusing on commercial design nowadays. Nix Labs may be able to further their exploratory mil spec designs or even enter the armed ship market. This too, would likely make Pelland Research unhappy.
*other... You tell me and I can try to make it happen (-:

(Dawwww my letter was ignored T_T)
It was not ignored. The Governor doesn't have time to respond to every letter she gets, especially when the answers are public knowledge.

Well...how about a ultra-conservative redneck freighter trucker, who likes chewing tobacco, spitting it out on the floor and complaining about "those daaamn liberals!!"

Don't know how you can translate that into Aurora character traits though  :P
Well, I added you in as a character already, you can look at the traits in the post where I showed him.

I there any more captains going and can I get command of a ship. :) promise not to damage it too much.....
There are spaces. What route you want to go? Captain a commercial ship? A space station? A warship? Just get added and wait for a new command to open up?

I'd like to point out that the NPE Micro Orion E9 is a Haan Industry exclusivity.
ehhhhh kind of... Since the base engine technology is a joint work of nix and Haan, you can't really stop nix from building it. That said, nix has no capacity to build it. I figure Haan industries has the FAC engine industry pretty well covered, but Nix Labs actually has the normal mil spec engine manufacturing niche. I base this on the fact that Haan already put an investment into the FAC ntet engine while nix invested in the 'normal' ntet engineS. Note the plural. Nix is able and ready to build mil spec and commercial 'big' engines right now. You will, as you wrote, have to put in the investment to get that capacity... Which is probably a good idea because historically Haan Inds has been an active commercial class ship builder...
How much time until our shipyard can produce Gate Builder? If more than 18 months, we'll try to rent one of the other shipyard.
we are looking at several months, maybe a year at the earliest. I'll check the numbers and if it is going to be 18 or more i will act accordingly.
With our labs now available, our top Propulsion scientists should start work on the Mega Orion, a larger, safer version of the engine for use aboard our Gate Builder and other civilian ships (Aka, a civie engine). Then design a Gate Builder and launch production of one. Sure, it's an investment, and an heavy one, but I'm sure it'll pay.
sounds good. Any desire to redesign the Strongman tugs with your new engine once able? Not sure if the governor would buy any, but designing is cheap once all the components are designed.

Also, feel free to indicate support for governor candidates...

And finally, excuse any spelling errors. Typed on an iPad.
