floating islands and magma seas (link is back)
« on: January 30, 2012, 07:44:12 pm »

I just embarked here and there is magma all around me and no volcano. Magma sea goes down more than 129 z-levels. Possibly more but I can't see it. This place is crawling with semi-molten rock.

Also there is a mountain of adamantine that starts at 48 z-levels lower (probably more) than the ground, in the middle of the magma sea, and goes 392 z-level higher. It would probably go higher if there wasn't a max height.

I can't play it because game is running with like 0.01 FPS and everything is collapsing. When I look at what's collapsing it sends me to adamantine mountain or to magma sea.

I wish I could take a look at this with Stonesense. I can't run it for some reason.

Don't forget to turn off the cave-ins if you don't want to play it with 0.01 FPS.
There are two wagons because I reclaimed that place later but I didn't do anything.

What you have here is an uberbug. A candy tower and an unstable mantle. Unlucky you.

Ah, I just abandoned it.

I'll reclaim and post the save here.

Here it is.

edit:link removed

We all want to play this really badly.
Well, every frame takes like 30 seconds. It's more like Frame Per Minute. But if you decide to leave the PC open with the game unpaused overnight maybe stuff would stop collapsing in the morning  :D

And there isn't much to mine since everything around is semi-molten.

It's still a great challenge for any hardcore DF-ers though :D

I find it hard to be surprised that when looking for the collapses, you find either the magma or the candy mountain... because these are really the only features.

This should be fun.

Almost always unplayable.

Build a fort on it.

*sigh* Nothing to see here, just another corrupted world - do everybody a favor and delete it, then generate another world and hope for something that works.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Well, I guess I made that FPS issue clear. Too bad cave-ins won't stop happening. It could be fun to build a fort there.

Also, you can turn cave-ins off in the init.
I totally forgot about that ::)

Whatever, I'm going to edit the OP again and post the link if people want to see it :D
