Dual wielding picks: should it happen, or is it a force nature never intended?

It's weird, 'cause he's the 201st living member of my civ, which means that he hacked the population cap.
From what I've seen, you get a migrant wave if you are at or below the currently set population cap.  If your population cap was 200, and you had 200 dwarves, you should get a migrant wave.  Since you had lots of !!fun!! just recently it should be a small wave, however.

In my current fortress I have a pop-cap of 32, and currently have 30 adults and 2 children.  I'm expecting at least half a dozen more dwarves when the fourth migrant wave arrives, even though I'm at my cap now, since my previous fort stopped having migrants at 45 of 32 (had 30 dwarves, got a wave of 15 ...).

My baron just went melancholy because, even though he had more than he could ever want, I accidentally destroyed the only ☼engraving☼ he ever made. This shot him into a spiral of depression, so now he's basically dead. Remind me, can I get a new one eventually, or do I just have to wait for a king?

He was a cool baron, too. Never made mandates, no demands, and he liked simple things.

He was also romantically involved with my mayor/broker, as it happens, so that could lead to problems...

Its a hereditary title, so unless his girlfriend is going to have his child, yer kinda screwed for nobles (wait ... is that a bad thing?).

That would usually be considered a great thing, since msot of us don't take the time to find the perfect dorf for the position. This guy sounds like he was chosen because he was perfect, so losing him and is a terrible blow. Especially since he had a lover, who will never get over his death and find a new companion.

Well, I really just chose him because he was (I think) one of the starting 7. Maybe.

Query: Can dwarves visit you in fort mode?

I ask because I just got a migrant wave in which there was a trader, who doesn't count as a citizen. It's rather strange, really.

You sure it's just not a random trader?

I considered the possibility, but she's by herself, listed as "friendly", and just sort of hanging around at the edge of the map, ignoring my depot and being confounding.

aw... so sad. Oh well, I had to savescum anyway, because a stupid metalsmith went berserk after he realized that I couldn't get him any metal, and proceeded to murder children.

Never mind, I got the exact same migrant wave again and, sure enough, there she is...
