turkeys. I shall start testing the practicality of training turkeys into a formidable defense. Got any ideas?

Did you also add TRAINABLE? War animals have a 1.5x or so bonus to attack power (and speed? can't remember).

If you can capture and breed wild animals that are weaker than turkeys, unleashing your Turkey Warriors upon them in an arena might be your best shot. They reach their max size in two years. Unfortunately, goblins are 12x the size of turkeys and have metal armor and weapons that shrug off the turkey claws. On the other hand, turkeys lay eggs and hatch en masse, and they can be manually maneuvered via cages or pastures. This might be the foundation of an effective suicide wave tactic.

Sadly, you cannot eat either intelligent creatures or tame animals killed by your enemies in battle :sadface

I just realized two things. 1. For the Win and F___ the World have the same initials. 2. They have the same meaning in Dwarf Fortress.

What you'd lose in combat ability per entity you'd make up in sheer numbers of war turkeys...

Turkey's are remarkably sturdy as, when their population explodes, I tend to let them run around scouting the outsides and caverns. One turkey that met a sealed off Forgotten beast (of butterfly /w powder type) took about 6ish pages of punishment before going down... latching on and crewing  it's left wing the entire time.

They bite and scratch so try training them in biter, fighting, striker, dodger, and wrestler.

By far my favorite of the sponsorship era animals.

[INTELLIGENT] would make things awry though. I wonder if eating the eggs of sapients counts against Dwarven morals.

So if a dragon kills or eats a dwarf are they not friendly to dwarfs anymore? Just a thought.

Once they have tasted dorf flesh, they will always attempt to kill dorfs as soon as they are uncaged, even if you tame them. Anything capable of killing a dorf and being tamed (or modded to be tamable) behaves like this.

So the obvious course of action is to try to get a wild turkey to kill one of your dorfs.  Then trap him and release him deep inside your fort.

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.
I just hope he dies the same death that all dwarfs deserve: liver disease.

I can confirm that this is not true.

Shortly after the release of the current version, I created a test fort to get a grasp for the new gameplay mechanics.  I fired up the recently updated runesmith, and noticed that there were serpentmen in the caverns.

I used runesmith to tame them, and teleport them to the surface for evaluational testing.  The female serpent men promptly claimed a nearby nesting box and popped out some serpentman eggs, which my dwarves readily snarfed up and put in the food stockpile.

For the full monty, I ordered that they be cooked into roasts to determine if the dwarves would actually do so.

Sure enough, I had a couple serpentman infantacide roasts in short order.

I could repeat the experiment again, if you feel it is warranted.

Butcher Sapient: Acceptable is your answer. IE You will butcher them once they die. Or if they are on the animal list

So when training a dragon with the Dungeon Master, How come you've gone through so many? Is there a problem with dragon training?

Dragons live a looooong time. Dwarven lifespans can be counted in minutes.
