Somewhat relevant, I once saw a Morrowind mod that added clothes to certain naked enemies in various mods.  Someone posted a comment saying something along the lines of "Posting to protest censorship, downvote this if you hate freedom"

Apparently censoring content in your personal copy of a game makes you Big Brother.

I was raised not to swear, and swear words never entered my spoken vocabulary.  I was the same for online for a while but I eventually started saying the occasional dammit, bastard, etc. which slowly eroded my moral fiber until I couldn't go ten words without fucking swearing.

In seriousness, I hate the concept of words being "good" or "bad." Euphemisms and dysphemisms are unholy evils to me, since they only serve to obfuscate.

However.

It's really a problem of rather small significance. I'll avoid swearing solely to avoid confrontation about it. I don't really mind being courteous to people's nonsensical demands, provided said nonsensical demands are really easy to follow, which obviously is the case with word choice. If swearing is no big deal, not swearing is equally no big deal.

I'm in the same boat as Cfoofoo. I never swore, then I spent time on line, and more so these forums, and I started swearing online. Then I started swearing in real life. Some people who knew me before have been surprised by the change.

Basically. You fuckers have corrupted me.

Edit: That said, I don't have a issue with swearing like some of you seem to. Or at least less of one. I don't think someone is stupid or crude or whatever even if they swear two out of three words. I just feel there should sorta be two things not to do. Don't swear in front of children. Try to avoid redundancy: 'You fucking rat bastard assholes' is fine, You fucking fucker fucks' seems less so to me.

I like "you fucking fucker fucks" 'Fuck you you fucking fuck fuckers' is one of the reasons the english language is great. I haven't been able to make a similar sentence in another language yet.

I used not to swear much too. Then I found a job as a cook - and now every time I do the kitchen I swear. My boss have colorful expletives. I even learnt a few swear words in foreign languages.

Yeah, I know.  It's one of the chief reasons why I don't let myself play in Beginner's Mafia games anymore--I spend half the game reining myself in and trying not to jump on people too aggressively, which is a thing that doesn't work.

The good thing about swearing, though, is that if you do it so much "it looses it's emphasitory force", you can just add more cursing when you need to and it works again.

On a more serious note I had a long conversation the other day with a friend of mine who's a bit etymology geek. He claims that the original use of "fuck" as an insult (as in "fuck you you cunt" and so on) was actually "I fuck you". Of course, shortenings are one of the most common changes through use (consider "sup" and "What's up", which should really be "What is up" but...yeah). The one that makes me laugh the most though is when people say "fucking typical" or it's variants. Because the actual meaning of what they're saying is "Grrrr, this event is of a type, similar to other past events!"

I wasn't much of a swearer as a kid, in fact I was quite soft worded, then came highschool, and trough four years of an all male (there was a girl there somewhere) class I kind of started to swear, a lot, like, really fucking lot.

That said, I have tried reducing it, as it gets annoying sometimes, but I do show suprising restraint when I'm with my family or younger kids (and just as it happens most of them swear more than me -.-'). Despite it being very common in my languge I can still verily spice it up when I get pissed off or nervouse or whatever causes mental destabilization.

Another thing is that my mother tounge is just so amazingly awesome for swearing you wouldn't believe it. Compared to it the english language is so poor it's not even funny.

It still is "I fuck you" in Croatian. Or the more common variant, "I fuck your X", where X can be virtually anything - mother, deity, brains, luck, life, household appliance, you name it.

Yes, but I've seen some people (both old and young) use it in such creative ways and combinations that I couldn't help but smile despite the horrible things they just said X)
