Hopefully the dwarves would prioritize running away over saving someone. For instance, if they SEA a MONSTER.

Personality rewrite so particular dwarves could value someone else's life (a friend, a spouse, a stray cat) over their own would be another great addition to personality rewrite, but I guess it goes to some other thread. Speaking of which, I do not understand what's going on here, but dwarves pulling other dwarves up by hand or via ropes would be awesome.

They fish with their BEARDS.
Not saying they couldn't beard-lasso a drowning baby out of the water though, but this should probably be a low-priority task (like recovering wounded) so it doesn't throw the entire fort into chaos via recursive rescue attempts...

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.
