I have learned something new today.
« on: January 29, 2012, 03:14:07 pm »

Pouring lava onto a frozen ocean is a quick and easy way to have quick FPS death.  I went from 150FPS to 2 inside of a minute.

Wow... impressive. You made the game have to melt/freeze/boil large quantities of material, generate clouds of steam, make large chunks of rock and ice fall, move large quantities of liquids, and generate lots of contaminants.

Some of the most laggy the game does is temperature calculations, mists, caveins, flow mechanics, and contaminants.

The only way you could've made it worse is with a crap ton of cats wearing cloaks.

Yeah, but the cats won't last forever so then you just have plain old boring !!Artifact Lignite Cloak!!s.

I demand a drawing.  Now.

I can think of something even worse.

Clown-Cat-Crundle-Zombie Hybrids wearing artifact cloakings of burning spun artifact lignite wading through water that's boiling from their body temperature causing chain reactions in upper levels of the fortress that result in cave-ins falling into the magma sea and generating magma mist.

I want to tell you they were bad men, cephalo.  I want to tell you that with a better overseer the Fortress never would've gotten so bad someone would get offed in a pointless fisticuffs.
But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.

I also demand this drawing.  I'd do it myself, but my meager skills would not do it justice.

Well, obviously, you make the cats fire-immune first.

Or explosive.  I heard that was a fun exploit until the bugfix.  I expect cats running through the fortress with burning capes might have a wee negative impact on anything flammable in the place.  Like the booze stockpile.  Or dwarven limbs/hair/beards.  Only one way to find out, though...

Speaking of learning something new, today I have discovered that the dwarf fortress section of g-faqs is totally dead and locked...

That's because no one is posting there.  After a time, posts get locked due to inactivity, which can be annoying, but it cuts down on necros.  PC games tend to have less discussion than console games, because they often have their own dedicated forums elsewhere on the web.
