X-Com: The Two Sides [Human Thread]
« on: January 28, 2012, 11:14:12 pm »

Seems the votes in Orbs thread is in favor of a double LP, Humans VS. Aliens.

I will be playing the role of the X-Com commander, ridding Earth of the new alien menace!

Now, I personally won't be taking a lot of input. That would eat up tons of time, and make it likely that me and Orb would rarely update. What I will do, is accept suggestions on base location, and any advice. If I can name soldiers, I will name them after any of you if you would like.

I will add more to this post when Orb starts his.

Doubtful. I tend to be pretty good about keeping my soldiers alive.

But yes, death all around!

I'd like a rookie, if possible.

Oh, Korbac's post reminded me to ask this.

Should I have soldiers who generally have the same equipment, or more specialized soldiers?

I generally use more standardized kits with one in four having a special weapon. This makes it much easier to recover from field ammunition shortages quickly, simplifies procurement, and (because the standard kit isnt usually "lots of explosives!!!1!1!!") increases the rate of recovered artifacts.

All Autocannons.  High Explosive, with Inferno rounds for night missions.   ;D

No. Please no. What did that farm house ever do to you? Do you think aliens deserve this kind of treatment?

But note: If he goes all explosives, he'll never recover live aliens, which provide a research bonus. Just a thought. Artifacts get blown up too.

I already have a pretty standard loud-out. I guess I will use that, with a few specialized soldiers.

I tend to have one heavy weapons guy, two snipers, and six standard soldiers. Generally half of the standard soldiers carry just a weapon, spare clip, and a normal grenade. The other half carrier a weapon, spare clip, prox, either high explosives, medkits, and more.

I preferred to have 1 or 2 guys with autocannons, rest (~4-8 guys) with rifles. The rifles would be divided into "snipers", guys who have good accuracy and stay back while the remaining guys would be "raiders", the expendable cannon fodder, first into the breach sort of deal. Raiders would also be priority#1 soldiers to be equipped with pistol&stun combo if I wanted to capture live specimen. Everyone would also act as a secondary grenadier, carrying as many grenades in their inventory as feasible.

Worked fairly well. Not as much firepower as pure autocannon/heavy plasma force, but those feel a tad too gamey for my tastes.
