If you desire a position in the list, post below. It -is- a very harsh environment. That doesn't mean you have to be an elite player, but please know the basics.
The goal is pretty simple and outlined in the backstory/introduction.
Journals should be written for every month, please try and make them interested/detailed.
If you want to involve images or even video diaries, go ahead. Just add spoilers to be considerate.
When your turn comes, message me for the link. Unpack it with WinRAR, it includes everything you need for Genesis mod, including Utilities such as Therapist.
When your turn ends, compress the file with WinRAR (archive it) and upload it on a suitable file sharing website. (If there are any left with SOPA/PIPA/ACTA!)
Message the next player the link and message me with it, so I have backups just in case.
Obviously, use free sites that take the entire folder.
If you have any serious issues, message me. I'll work it out with you.
Anyway! Enough of that! Let's hope we craft a masterpiece of a Dwarven Legend!

Dear Urist: I, the overseer, appreciate your point of view about the danger that an unarmed goblin can represent at the other side of a fortification when you try to kill it with a ballista, but, as you know, you're not paid to think. And a mindless worker is a happy worker, so shut up and do your job.

Hi there.  I would like to give it a go too.  I've tried Genesis before so it shouldn't be too bad.  Just wondering though, what is save scumming?

You got it. Save scumming means something bad happens and you reload a past save. It's exploit-ish in my eyes. If something bad happens, it becomes part of the story. Maybe the end, but that's all part of it.

Me? ._. No. I'm sure he will ;D

Edit: Due to Blue being busy, we'll put his turn on hold. When he returns he'll be placed after the current slot.

1st Granite, 126

I wake up groggily to the familiar yet irritating sound of pickaxes and promptly yell to whoever it is to keep it down.  I roll over to find myself covered with a soft layer of snow and see that the wagon is no longer moving.  Our mighty leader, Trumpetbreath, has begun to yell orders to the miners. as he stares off into the distance.  He does live up to his name, if there were any greenskins left in the area, I'm sure that they heard.

I walk off and start to survey the area that is to be my new home until I die or I'm pardoned.  Sadly, I doubt the latter will happen.  The land is snowy white and the brightness is too much for my cave-longing eyes to bear.  The frosty blanket of snow covers the earth and hiding untold riches beneath.  I wander off and let my memories go back to her.

Urvad Mindfulcloisters, with her long soft hair and beautiful golden beard, how I long to look into those dark eyes once again.  I stole her away many a night to enjoy her company in private.  She saying little, and I saying less, both of us enjoying the delights of youth.  Now that I think of it, we probably should have said more, then I would have known that she was the general's daughter and wouldn't have gone to jail.  Then again, if I hadn't gone to jail, I wouldn't be alive.  It's funny how things work out.

At the time, I was studying to be a manager and though I wasn't at the top of my class, my future was still bright.  I was determined to show that someone not of noble lineage could do just fine.  Now, I have been retrained to be a metalsmith in the outpost of Laststand.  It was either this or another year in jail and a hundred hammerstrikes.  The choice wasn't easy, but it is better to live to love a dozen others than to die for the love of one.  I may have that backwards...

6th Granite, 126
I got a little lost, mostly because everything aboveground looks the same.  I finally made it back to the cart to see Trumpetbreath yelling at the miners.  He was having them dig a hole in the mountain.  Not a cave that we can put a door on, just a hole.  He explained that he was making a shelter for us to stay in until a better place was dug.  I told him that I had a better idea and started to draw in the snow.  Here's just the bedroom area I proposed.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
He scratched his head and said that it was an okay idea and that he would consider my advice.  He then told the miners to stop and start on the great new idea that he had put together.  I knew then that this may indeed be my Laststand.

-A. Urntin

So, I spent a few hours putting together some fortress layouts using a calculator, a pen, and some paper.  I'm missing my mods but I can do without them.  I just hope that I don't accidentally bump into the first cave before I finish everything.  I'm new to succession games so hopefully this goes well.

-edited for continuity.

19th Granite, 126

Fragging webs!  They are everywhere and one cannot help but get webbed.  I've had enough of the outside world.  I've put aside my desire for a safe cave for something that may be better, water.  I started the construction of a well and cistern to supply the hospital.  Casualties are bound to happen, they always do.  Melbil and Melbil are our miners, sadly, one of the Melbils is kinda...slow.  Poor dompledwarf.

I've asked Udib to pick a few herbs though she didn't like the idea of being ordered around by an ex-con.  I told her that I was merely being the smarter Melbil's liaison while he was mining and she accepted my answer.  I try to be friendly but it is difficult at times.  Beggers can only be so choosy.  I think I got that one right.

6th Felsite, 126

The simpler Melbil has stumbled across exactly what I didn't want in my fortress layout, a cavern.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I went down and sealed it off personally, since I was a child, I have always had a fear of things that fly and this was just another access route into the fortress.  Plus a cistern is no use if there is a hole in it.

Spring is nearly over and it has passed without much fuss.  It is nice compared to the screams of agony and groans of my distended belly that I had become accustomed to hearing.  I have laid out most of my blueprints, I doubt I will finish them myself, but maybe someone else will take care of them in the future.

16th, Hematite 126

While putting together some makeshift workshops outside, I heard a scuffle in the distance.  By the time I looked over I noticed that a tigress had killed a bunny and was working on a dog.  All the other animals just sat around and watched the show.  What type of world do we live in where animals sit around and watch each other get slaughtered for fun?!  Run you idiots!  Fortunately, she ran off after that.  I've really got to get everyone inside.

12th Malachite, 126

We found four dwarves scavenging in the mountains, an obsidian, two moss, and stone clansman.  They were difficult at first but when we mentioned that we had booze, they were all for joining our merry band.  That makes eleven of us now.
-A. Urntin

4th Galena, 126

I am worried about the well, summer is almost over and it is not ready yet.  The river will freeze soon and we are going to need that water.  I haven't been paying much attention to the food stocks but I can only guess that they must be low.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We have started making the parts for the screw pump and have assembled a windmill.  I can hear Thunderbreath singing in the mines, I really wish he didn't live up to his name.
-A. Urntin

2nd Limestone, 126

The well is finally finished and the well has begun to fill, I hope that we can get enough water to weather the winter and spring.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After taking a look at out foodstores, I being to panic.  I have been ignoring it and it seems that we are about to start starving again.  I can't bear the thought of going without food and having the ability to do something about it.  I order more plants to be gathered and for a fishery to be built.  There are barrels of unprocessed fish laying about.  I instinctively blame Melbil for it and then busy myself with making sprockets or something.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And what is this?  I have made a serious oversight.  I knew things were bad but I thought that we would have had a few seeds somewhere.  This is going to be a painful autumn.
-A. Urntin

Really uneventful times here, just digging and shuffling.

1st Sandstone, 126

We have nearly pumped the river dry.  The eastern section froze over shortly after we started pumping, so we have pulled all we can for now.  Although it has made fishing easier, you can just walk up to the fish and pick them up.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We also found seven dwarves picking prickleberries to the south.  At first, they were defensive of their precious hoard of tiny berries.  They said that if you held them in your mouth for long enough, they would ferment.  Only one dwarf was available for speaking the others just nodded with their cheeks full.  I didn't want to imagine how long they had those berries in their mouth.  I told that that we weren't interested in stealing their hoard and that we had a fully functional farmland for both above- and below-ground crops.  That sold them over.

I didn't mention that although we had fully functional farms they weren't functioning.  We still didn't have a seed to save out lives with.  I assigned a few of the newbies to be masons as we put a roof over the farms, no need to get attacked by eagles while harvesting longland grass.

I also tweaked the water pump and placed a fortification behind it.  That way if some creature came out of the water and destroyed it, it still wouldn't be able to enter the fortress.

12th Timber, 126

As I was "getting to know" one Stinthad Crushedrack a bit better, I was alerted that traders had been found as well as a liaison from our kin the in the mountains.  I quickly straightened my clothing and began taking the few stone crafts that we had to the tradepost.  No one knew how to appraise such items so I gave it a go.

Sadly, those merchant bastards dared to come to us without a drop of booze!  Don't they know that we are starving and dehydrated and that eventually, sobriety would drive us all mad?  After regaining my composure, I agreed to trade for seeds and some foodstuffs.  After another round of scrounging up everything that we could possibly sale, we also purchased a llama, a bulldog, a pig and a bag or two.  I told them that if they ever make it back our way, they should bring seeds, sheep, turkeys, mastiffs (big angry dogs), possibly a cat, and gypsum plaster.  The merchant also mentioned something called a "golden goose."  I could only imagine that it was some type of money trap but it would be interesting to see one none the less.

They also mentioned a few other pockets of civilization here and there.  People trying to eek out an existence in this cruel world.  It was heartening news for my fellows here at Laststand.

I left them to muse over the rock crafts, gears, beds, and whatever else was thrown in there.  I then ordered a dwarf named Lokum to brew up some spirits, everyone could use a drink to celebrate surviving until winter.

1st Moonstone, 126

Snowstorms, terrible snowstorms, this is how we'll most likely spend the next four to five months.  The work has to continue though for the year is almost over.  I order a beekeeping area to be set up and lay down some blueprints for a jail and a tomb.  I thought is was a great area to put the catacombs around the hospital, so when someone dies during surgery, it would be a short hauling trip to the coffin.  No one else thought that my idea was very nifty so I left the plan unimplemented for now.

I'm also going to reorganize that workers based on race, but I have to do it slowly so that no one notices.  I don't want some type of mutiny on my hands because people think I'm a racist, it's just that shroom dwarves are great at farming, steel dwarves were built for war and domple dwarves...everyone has their own special place.  I'll set up the training schedule for the military and draw up a few training uniforms.  Mark out a barrow for keeping everyone inside and put some doors up.  Maybe some traps.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
-A. Urntin

25th Obsidian, 126

I was told to go and rest after stumbling.  I had done so much in the past few months that I was exhausted.  I did everything stated before as well as appoint a militia commander and chief medical dwarf.  I also did some bookkeeping so that we would have adequate records of stocks.  The farms are ready to go depending on seed and season (if we ever get more seeds) and some stockpile have been arranged.  I'm going to spend my last few days of this year making a few mechanisms.  Maybe I'll go visit Stinthad, I love watching that miner swing that pick.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, the snowstorms have been non-stop.  I'm hating this snow.
-Aria Urntin

That ends my year right there.  Here are a few things that I simply didn't have time to do.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There are plenty of notes sitting around, they should explain my ideas for layout.

One caveat, I've never played genesis, but it's basically just an expanded dorf fort, right? I usually manage to not end my forts in a bloody mess. Most of the time.

I anticipated this so I tossed the old game manual into the "Dwarf Fortress" folder, it isn't complete but it should help.  It should be "Genesis Manual.chm"
If that isn't enough look it up on the forum http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=52988.0.
