Longest Lasting Dwarf Fortress (?)

Has there been a documented longest lasting fortress? Can they go on for hundreds if not thousands of years?

Alternate answer: eventually the FPS death will come, no matter how much processing power you have, so there is a theoretical limit.

Quick Question: How does it always come? I cant seem to actually find a definition of FPS Death other than that the FPS eventually goes to shit.

Well, there's a great chance that my current fortress will eventually have so much stuff in it that it's impossible for me to load it. It's already eating up 1.3 gigs of RAM just to load and save it, which is about 98% capacity. (Theoretically) I'll be able to find a workaround for this to temporarily fix it, but eventually I'll have to give up on it until I can get some more memory.

FlareChannel was over 200 (in-game) years old. Note that fort was in game version 40d.

Mine usually last at 50+ FPS until they hit the RAM cap for the DF software and the game crashes and can't be loaded on that save any longer.

So usually 40 to 90 years.

It's obvious we must create a fortress that lasts a thousand years.

Well, there is a succession world that has a good chance of lasting that long.

The individual fortresses are no doubt going to become adventurer death traps, however.

Eternal Halls would technically count as a fort that lasted 1000 or more years, except for the fact that it was abandoned and reclaimed repeatedly.

My current fortress, Angstursmata (Coldfire), just reached it's 59th year! This is by far the longest lasting fortress that I've ever ordered built :D
