Gone up isn't really an adequate description for 6 hours.

Yeah, world gen is slower.  I can still squeeze something out of it.  It's mostly the goods being shuffled around and processed as far as I can tell.

For now, just generate smaller worlds.  Also, you can stop world gen early by pressing a key (Enter or something, it tells you on the screen).

However sometimes you can't because the process is advancing so slowly windows in it's infinite wisdom declares the program to be "not responding" and so you cannot do anything, like hit enter.
So it just ignores any input you send. I was lucky to manage to get an enter in in the second window on my laptop (that had been genning all day). I loaded up the world to find that all the dwaven civs were dead. Or I assume they were since I couldn't make a dwarven adventurer.

Okay, two worlds in a row now. Can only embark as elf, human or goblin. No dwarf. Is this a bug, or are these worlds actually devoid of dwarves?

I havent heard of this issue... the dwarfs may of died out. Its kinda of uncommon for it too happen in past games, but it is not unheard of.

It's happened in 5 worlds in a row now.
I'm deleting the game folder and trying again completely from scratch.

There's really no point in long worldgens other than to have cities all over the place. I just gen to year 10, it's enough time for some cities and such to have spread out, plus there's still megabeasts around to provide !!Fun!!, and on top of it there's not as many creatures and the like so that results in better FPS.

Last I heard you need a certain amount of years to pass for a Dragon to be adult enough to be Megabeast worthy...
