Goblin/Assault Mode

I had a dream that one day goblins will become a playable race.
I had a dream that they get their own mode.
I had a dream where after building fortress you can conquer it.
I had a dream where you can buy assault ladders and battering rams.
No, seriously, I dreamed about all of these stuff!  :)
Would you be interested in playing such mode?

Playable fortress assault would be a lot of fun.  I don't mind waiting a long time for it though becuase it would be a major rewrite and there are a lot of other things that I think should take higher priority.

Goblin mode is in the future devs.

Humans, elves, and Goblins all have their own Dev section for Post-completion. When all three are done "all" races will be playable so to speak.

For the moment, you can mod them in as playable yourself.

Yeah, eventually this will all be possible.

Toady has plans to allow you to send out invaders in the future.  Ladders are planned too, as are battering rams I imagine.

And you won't need a special mode for it: fortress mode will allow it all.

Although you'll probably still have to mod goblins as playable, unless that's planned too.

Goblins, humans, and elves are all planned to be playable eventually without modding. It just isn't going to happen anytime soon.

I'd also like to point out that what the OP is suggesting is not basically dwarf mode with goblins.  From what it looks like to me, the OP is suggesting a playable invasion/siege mode independent of dwarf mode.

Even with the planned dev stuff in place, I still think it would be cool to have a dedicated goblin siege mode where you get to choose the loadout and stuff of your goblin army and choose a fort to assault (including ones of your own design!). It would be cool for testing fort designs and strategies... and perhaps it could be a good way to have a multiplayer mode where someone controls the dwarves and someone controls the gobbos!  As I don't forsee dwarf mode ever realistically supporting multiplayer, this would be an awesome mode that would bring something new to the table.

Eek, not what I was going for. Nevertheless, me putting [CIV_PLAYABLE] does not remove his suggestion, and people will still read it, and agree with it if it's a good idea. Plus, it's an idea planned for the vanilla future, and if ibrotesky becomes interested in playing as goblins, he can go to the modding sub forum like you mentioned ;)

Well Toady plans to implement being able to attack settlements, fortresses and what-have-you in the future, but an entirely new game mode?

Yep, i was thinking about full assault mode.
Goblins are quite obvious for the matter, but it could be any other race, kobolds, angry elves, some crazy necromancer, local baron, etc.

I think it should have few stages.
Starting with like reconnaissance, sending scouts to check out the defenses, collecting data about fortress.
Then buying stuff for assault, hiring mercenaries and planning.
And the third phase - breaking through gates and killing everybody.

It would be great if Toady could modify the existing goblin strategy according to somekind of plan.
For example they should bring some tools for overcoming defenses.
It starts to annoy when they assault you, but can't even do anything, try to breach the doors or cross the water canal.
Instead of straight forward assault first send scouts, like warning to dwarfs and then full scale attack.

It would definitely make for some awesome succession games:

One person builds a fort with the best defense they can muster in a set amount of years, then uploads it and has the other players try to conquer it in siege/assault mode.
