Of course, you would still need to invest a whole lot of time and money into research before your drive would be ready for mass production. And it would probably be too powerful for a regular hull. So you'd need some high-tech hulls to hold it in place. Not to mention the fact that it would be a slightly untested design, and as such would have a small risk of blowing up spontaneously until you worked out the kinks and researched V2.0.

From an entirely reputable, completely legal, maximum legitimacy bank-like-insitute who asked no questions re: what the money was for, who you were, or how you were going to repay them, and merely said that they had very generous interests rates and an easy to understand policy regarding late payments. They also said that they might ask for a few favours now and then, but were disinclined to discuss the nature of these favours.

It was the only way you could get the money. No one respects you. If they look up your credentials, there's a warning label of 'mentally unstable', which is entirely unjustified. But you must build your drive- no matter what it takes, you must prove them wrong!

Edit: That's option B, in case it wasn't obvious.

And the last question before your job begins.  What is your name, age and gender?

Protip: don't tell us what the rules are, just give vague indications. That way, you can just wing it when you feel like it, whilst retaining some structure.
